Instead of doing the usual "can i get your opinion?" try this: Carry around a bunch of pennies, when you open tell the person to hold a couple of them. If they are smart they will get the "two cents" thing and laugh, they usually also give back the change, but they are pennies so who cares? If they dont get it then mention it after you run your stack, and say you want the change back because you didnt like their opinion. |

Sorry, but that completely takes away the essence of spontaneity these opinion openers are supposed to imitate. |

I agree. This would definatley blow up in your face, my man. You say "usually" they'll do something, but I'd be willing to bet you haven't field tested it, yet. Keep trying to come up with new stuff, but stay clear of this one, parkour. June |

So what are you gonna say? "Wanna hold my pennies?" |

I agree. Actually it does appear to be a little vague. But thats perfectly ok. We're here to support each others ideas and improve them. The objective in opinion openers is to open up the target with a controversial and interesting subject that will not only make them feel good but that can lead into a fun conversation. It is important to use these openers as sharp hooks so that we can move the target the next phase. Google 'opener collection' for fun examples of opinion openers. |

this just made my mind jump into a great idea... yes the giving the two pennies is a bit blunt and may not draw in the girls opinion and such like most openers do, you could deffinately play this to your advantage. A couple of months ago i was listening to this comedian Steven Wright and he gave a one liner joke that was "WHY IS IT A PENNY FOR YOU THOUGHTS BUT YOU HAVE PUT YOUR TWO CENTS IN?... SOMEONE IS MAKING A PENNY!" I think this routine could work very well if you instead went about it like this: Approach the girl like you were just thinking about something and you still want her opinion. When you get to her, hand her the two cents like the original routine. When she looks up at you, ask her to give you one of the pennies back. When she does, ask her if she realizes what just happened. you say "Well i was thinking about this, and i just gave you my two cents, and you handed me a penny for my thoughts... therefore you just made a penny. Isnt that wierd?" |

I was specifically thinking someplace like a coffee shop, where having change is normal, for those who mentioned it seeming rehearsed, but like geekster said this is about getting feedback from the community. I don't know about you all but I think of a lot of routines, and why spend valuable time field testing when our group here can find holes and make something stronger in a few minutes, like sether did. |

I'm not a huge fan of this, however once you mention the setting you planned on using it is it seems to make more sense. I can see it working, as an opener - not opinion opener, in that if the cashier gives you your change and you turn to a woman and offer her the change and then work it in whatever way you want. I'm a firm believer that it doesnt matter exactly WHAT you say as long as you are saying something. I might give this, modified, approach to use sometime. Good post. |

field tested my way and Parkour's way a few times last night... i think it is definitely a coffee shop opener. Drunk girls in the few loud bars i was at last night were way too stupid to even follow the first part, let alone adding in "the penny for your thoughts" idea afterward. |

Sorry again, but that has to be the worst piece of advice ever given on this forum. My original post was not a personal attack (although this one is I'm glad you cleared it up a little bit but as Sether said its too intellectual to use as an opener. It could work later in the game. Say you already have her attracted to you. Order a drink with her (preferably not for her = supplicating) and pay cash. Time it right and you can ask her an opinion question right before you get your change. Before she can answer, stop her and say, "oh! just a sec. Hold these" and give her two pennies. "now what were you saying?" |

HAHAHA That's cheesy,... DLV: pocket full of PENNIES. "Hey I need your "TWO CENTS" on something... I can't stay very long because carrying a pocket full of PENNIES all day sarging is EXHAUSTING!!" You're better off asking "Which is better, the 1983 penny? or the 1998 version?" |
