Sometimes I'll approach or talk to someone like the cute receptionist and an awkward silence enters the convo. At this point either she will end the interaction or I will. How do you keep approaches flowing? How do you bounce back when your mind goes blank and you can't think of anything to say?

Lean over to her ear and whisper "Did you forget your line?"

It's natural. We're humans. Don't fret it. Main thing: Don't take it upon yourself that this has occurred. Again: It's natural. When pauses happen on a "date" I sometimes make light of it because it is good when people can relax and let a convo rest for a while without filling every empty space with a word. Just be.
