Post subject:  Advice for contacting a girl I haven't seen for a while

This is my very first post, but I have been lurking for quite some time. Anyways, I finally had a good reason for signing up, and I am sure this will not be my last post.

I could use some advice for contacting this girl. I want to ask her out, but it has been like one year since we last spoke. My problem is that I cannot ask her out right now because I am stuck with intensive exams for the next month. However, I see on her FB site that there is a guy currently trying to flirt with her. He doesn’t seem very successful so far, but if he gets enough time, I am afraid that he might be eventually. Therefore, I want to establish contact already now so that she will forget about that guy for a short while.

Firstly, my plan is to write her and ask her “how she is doing and what she is doing at the moment”. That way she will get a good hint that I am into her, but it is still not going to be too obvious or direct. Hopefully, this should make her forget about the other guy for a while so that nothing happens until I have the time to actually take her out. I am pretty sure that this will be my first move, but I am much more unsure what I will do next, and I hope someone has some good advice. Eventually I want to ask her out, and I basically have three options in mind for my next move:

1) When the conversation is about to die, I tell her that I am going to write her in a couple of weeks when my exams are over because I want to ask her something. She will be left unsure what I will ask her, but it might be hinted strongly. I am thinking that it could be a way to “tease” her, but at the same time, I am also afraid that it might seem annoying.

2) When the conversation is starting to die I simply ask her if she wants to go out once I have finished my exams in about a month.

3) I let the conversation die out, and I don’t mention anything about taking her out. I then return and ask her out when my exams are over.

An alternative could also be not to write her at all before my exams are over, but I don’t prefer that option. I hope some of you guys can give your opinion her.

I'm no genius and I'm pretty new at this stuff but why do you want to wait for the conversation to die, from everything I've learned so far you want to ask her out be it in person or whatever while she thinks your that cool dude who she'd like to get to know better. Not the guy that kept pestering her till she got bored.

I see your point, and I should have rephrased it. It’s just my second move. The conversation shouldn’t actually die before I proceed to my second move. But anyways, thanks for the reminder.
