Scenario: You're walking in the mall and see a moving set. (They could be seated at a table, too, but let's assume that they're walking.) They're walking in the same direction as you are, then, just as you're about to pass them (or you could be walking in front of them), you open over your shoulder and say,
"Hey, this is my first time in this mall, and I'm trying to find [store name]. Do you guys know where it is?"
Now, one of two things could happen: 1) The set does know where the store is and are happy to give you directions, and 2) The set doesn't know where the store is and apologizes for their not-knowingness. In either case, I don't know what to do when the set does give me directions as to where the store is, as they're probably anticipating me to leave them alone once I have the information that I needed. But then again, in the other case, they're probably still anticipating me to leave them alone once I know that they can't help me out!
So what could I do after the target (or targets) answers my question, both in the "I know/I don't know" cases? I used this opener countless of times at malls, and right when the targets answers my question, I thank them for their time and "look for the store", but I know I could do better than that! So what should I do when the targets answer my question?
