Post subject:  Sober Frustration

Hi Everyone -

This may not be the right forum to address this, but I need guidance on how to deal with this so-called anxiety. In the evenings the moment I touch liquor, my ego is thrown out of the window and I use the direct approach of "Hey - I wanted to let you know that I think you're absolutely adorable. [PAUSE and SMILE]" I then reach my hand out and take the conversation from there. My success rate is about 9 numbers a night.

My challenge is stalling, feeling red, and just not knowing how to approach women when I'm soberly walking on the street or waiting for the metro. I keep thinking "What will the world think of me when I get rejected". Will my boss see me? Will I lose my job? If DC is so small, will she see me again? I know I know - you guys are going to tell me to throw my ego out and NOT CARE. But how do I not care. I can't just tell myself and go for the kill...

Can someone point me to resources to use to help me?

I am unable to find wings in the DC area and not sure how to conquer my stupid fears. It's as if I have a split personality when I'm drinking vs when I'm sober.

Please don't tell me to drink in the day. It's temporary. I want to be boss for life.

Let me know how to rid my anxiety and face the music safely.

You have AA when it comes to daygame cold approaches. That's pretty common.

You ever done sales? A sale is made on every interaction. Either you sell them something, or they sell you a reason why they aren't buying it. In pickup, it's the same thing. You are selling yourself. And if you are a good salesman they will take you up on it. If not, they'll convince you they have a boyfriend or they aren't interested or they don't have the time, and you'll buy it and walk away. Some people will never buy what you are selling and in fact, most won't. At least not until you get really good at it. Therefore you absolutely can't get discouraged. It's okay to feel a little sting after each rejection, because failure never feels good. But just take it like a boxer absorbing a stiff jab. It hurts, but you have to keep fighting. You can't just signal your corner to throw in the towel everytime you get hit. This is a knockdown battle and either you are going to go down swinging, or you will prevail victorious!

Hey That's a really good metaphor to explain a pick up...being a salesman selling yourself.
