haha, psyche, but seriously i am going to tell you a little bit about openers. first off, why is everyone thinking opinion openers are the best out there? they are not, and do you feel 'normal' asking someone if they know which cologne is the best? or something along the lines of that. this is just me, but i would get rid of opinion openers all-together, unless you are just joking around with your friend and you actually do need an opinion, lol. what i find that works best is just being natural, and coming one off the top of your head. for example, you see a short girl. "hey i don't wanna be mean or anything, but you look like the shortest person here," HB: that's mean, "hey don't go around judging a book by it's cover, good things CAN come in small packages." this is not the best, but i am not in the mood right now. so ya. but when you ARE in the mood, you will come up with good ideas. *the funny thing is i just used something like this line recently, you can read my field report in the PUA Lounge.* |

I used to be dead set against opinion openers. I find it hard to return IOIs when I didn't start from the get-go, so I prefer to be direct. However, there are sometimes when it feels right to be indirect. I have begun testing some opinion openers and I do see the pontential in them. Just avoid any ones mentioned on tPUA or examples in books, they're played out and unoriginal. Paraphrasing them or slightly modifying them won't cut it either, but I don't think the opinion opener is dead. A well calibrated PUA shouldn't confine themselves to only direct/indirect. |

I don't like opinion openers. Situational openers are best for me, since they are natural. As this one girl at work kept coming in the back to shop, I told her in a jokingly manner that she could shop out front like the rest of the people. She laughed, and I made her climb to get me a few things since she was up there. I now realized I could have closed her by telling her she didn't have to come in the back to see me and tell her to give me her number, but that is beside the point. If I would have used an opinion opener, she would have probably answered the question and left. I guess opinion openers are only good if you really need an opinion. |
