Post subject:  Direct Opener Help

Quick disclaimer: I searched for this and got 50k+ hits with no help sorting through.

I'm looking for some direct game openers with the idea of speeding up my hits and overcoming some approach anxiety when I can't find something specific to bounce off of indirectly for day game. I've watched some PUA videos for straightforward "You're cute. Let's get together." material and I'm not against it but would like some feedback and suggestions.

It feels a bit lazy but I think I can at least increase my approach count with some solid direct approaches. At the very least, I have faith in this forum to instill me with the confidence to try some of these and look forward to any suggestions. I recently closed out a 9 year relationship so I'm a bit out of practice (!).

Forum note: I would LOVE a sticky post on direct game openers (and if I missed it, I apologize).

When it comes to opening, I'm a big fan of "just be yourself . . ."

I know it is not a very popular stance, but just saying what comes to mind has helped me more often in more situations than any routine or gambit.

A while ago I was in a phase where my days were more or less filled with business appointments and I had little time for spontaneously chatting up women when, one day I saw a woman that was just my type and we had "a moment" of great eye contact and both smiled while we passed another in the pedestrian zone.

Then I thought, "Wait a minute, today's Saturday, I have time today!"

I turned around, jogged over to her, turned her around and said "Hi, I'm always running to appointments and usually wouldn't have had the time to talk to you, but I just realized that today is Saturday and I have time to say ´hi, I'm Chris and you're cute.`"

She smiled, laughed, introduced herself and, hey, we were in a conversation!

Ok, these days that has become somewhat of a routine for me, but the first time it was real.

Anyway, that's how I come up with my "canned lines." When I have a good day and my Mojo's kickin like Austin Powers and I instinctively say something cool, I try to remember it so that I can use it again, when I can't seem to think of anything good to say.

Post subject:  Another scenario

That sounds good. It does. I was out today and played the general role at a grocery store. I was chatting with some random guy and caught a girl out of the corner. Following Chief's newbie mission, you say 'hi' to everybody, but how do you handle the far offs? I know I could fake needing something in the aisle but it would have really gone against my legitimate food interest and I don't want to be that fake. I almost copied the above post (to an extent) and then bailed. So I guess I'm looking for something to break in when there's no eye contact and some distance.

Dude, you seem to have a little problem with the possibility of getting rejected.

Here's the cure: Go out this weekend and try to get shot down 10 times in one hour. Just go up to women and start asking women literally if they would shoot you down.

After one night of doing this you'll learn two things: 1. Its much harder to get rejected than you think! 2. Even if you do get shot down, almost nobody notices it.

Ok, now that you have realized that rejection is just a fun part of "the game," your mojo will be kickin like Austin Powers and you'll be ready for direct openers that make no sense whatsoever, like:

Go up to a girl, turn her around, open your mouth like you want to say something, smile and say "Wow, I had the coolest pickup line in mind and just forgot what I wanted to say . . . (smile again) . . . ok, let's do this the old fashined way--'hi, I'm Chris and you're cute."

Go up to a girl, turn her around and say "Hi, I saw you and wanted to talk to you, but couldn't come up with anything cool to say, so let's just start talking and, if I come up with a stupid pickup line, I'll let you know."

BTW, no need to be fake, don't be afraid to let a girl know that the only reason you were in a particular isle is because you saw her there and wanted to talk to her!!!!

Yeah, I can appreciate that. I actually ran a couple sets today and they went real well, although they were still situational opens. I'll do some random directs this week and post back. Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, so I went out for a few hours today and (damn this town sometimes) I almost came up dry just because there was nobody worth talking to. So finally I gave up on passersby and just started running cashiers at various stores. I opened about half direct and half indirect and I did close two numbers but they were both indirect kicks. It isn't that I mind the direct game (although frame is a possible problem I've considered), I just haven't had much success with it... which is fine, but there are situations where it's the only option. I used a morphed version of the line above and some other similar ones. My goal overall was just to find direct plugs with higher success rates. Anyway, I again appreciate the feedback.
