I'm 18 and I've used this opener a few times at the mall- most people my age have seen either one or both of these so it almost ALWAYS initiates an interesting conversation. Here's how it goes (fairly straightforward):

PUA: Hey, me and my friends have been arguing about this forever, and we need someone to settle the score; Which movie is better, Superbad or Knocked Up?

-I've noticed that most girls like Knocked Up best because they can relate to the story a lot better; Superbad is more from the guy's perspective.

-You can pretty much go anywhere from this and it's easy to convey preselection by saying something along the lines of, "Yeah, my ex girlfriend liked that one best too! Now I know we're not going to get along"

-If they choose the one you don't like best you can easily neg them with something like, "Really? You must have bad taste"

Interesting opener. Where do you go from here? Talk about the movies? Talk about other movies they like?

I would say your best bet is to false time constraint with either a DHV story or another opener about your girl friends. I recently read a post about a jesus christ opener that might work well:

PUA: Yeah, my friends always get into "drunken debates" as they call them. Get this, they just recently spent an entire night arguing whether they think Jesus Christ is hot. They finally dragged me into it and I said, "If there would be anyone to go gay for, it would be Jesus"

It's fairly broad and it really depends on their answer/situation, but stacking to another opener just as you're about to walk away works well.

A girl I was gaming who seemed to know what was up told me... "you should never say your ex gf, you should say your last gf"

"Yeah, my LAST girlfriend liked that one best too! Now I know we're not going to get along" sounds alot better

B Rob, I think that's excellent advice. Ex emphasizes the breakup; negative. "Last" emphasizes that there have been others; DHV.

Good stuff. :!:

What about just "my girlfriend(s)"?

That could easily backfire. If you're already "taken" some girls aren't interested.

I can't seem to find the correct phrasing, but shouldn't one of the first
and most important things to do in the initial approach be to disqualify
yourself as the potential suitor?

What better way than to just casually throw "my girlfriend" into the conversation...

I guess it comes down to frame. If you are dating multiple women or
have multiple friends who happen to be girls, then you are saying it
with truth.

I mean, she doesn't know whether the "girlfriend" in question is just
a friend or serious and you're not making a big deal either way.

And plus, why should you care, right? You aren't the one chasing.
You're just having a fun conversation. You're supposed to be detached
from any outcome.

I'm just beginning, so I believe something like this would help ME
personally to remove some of that approach anxiety and to break
through a woman's shield and disarm the obstacles.

...something to think about...

There are times when it will work, there are times it won't. The problem is, for the women it doesn't work with, it's like slamming a door shut. You also risk being thought of as just friend material instead of lover material since you already have a girlfriend. So you'll spend a lot of time building attraction, etc, but all you'll get out of it is a friend.

To me it seems unnecessarily risky, but if it works for you, go for it. A lot depends on the girl. If she likes a challenge, this will get her interested.

I see your logic. But you know, "People want what they can't have."

Anyway, as far as this opener goes, it seems to follow a basic opinion
opener template. You can replace Superbad and Knocked
Up
with any "X" or "Y". I would suggest that whatever X and Y are,
they be gender based (girls vs. guys). The OP already brought that up.
