Anyone familiar with POF knows that women there hide behind their computer screen to adopt a tough guy persona; in public with us they would cave. But, with that persona they are rude and gratuitously block rather than simply delete a profile. Get 5 blocks, your profile gets deleted. Get deleted a couple of times and bam- an IP ban. Gratuitous blocking is a violation of POF terms of use, but upon being notified of the gratuitous blocking, POF took no action. Nor did POF ever take action against racist and hostile emails from women, indicating some kind of gender bias to keep women on the site. With the demise of Markus, POF owner in Canada, POF will be controlled by IAC in the US, subject to federal and state laws barring gender biased business transactions. See Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §17200, 15 U.S. Code § 45. Now, POF will be subject to a breach of contract action in any state, for taking your money and deleting your profile. Now, the gloves come off. Having an online profile at some site like POF may not seem like much, but it reduces the amount of time that you have to spend pounding the pavement approaching women who may or may not be motivated to get a man. On POF, twoo, whatever, you and the woman both know why they are there- sex...no "I have a boyfriend" BS. Getting block/deleted/IP banned from the major sources slows the process down in our technological society, where we work outrageous hours. Our time is precious... If you want to keep or get a free profile in POF now is the time to do it before the full transition occurs. Afterward, fees may be charged as is done at Match. |
