I'm interested and curious about this. What types of things did the therapist do with you? Was hypnosis involved at all? |
I'm interested and curious about this. What types of things did the therapist do with you? Was hypnosis involved at all?
It has nothing to do with hypnosis. It all has to do with changing your beliefs. People experience approach anxiety because deep down they are scaring themselves due to negative beliefs they have about themselves. (Approach) anxiety is not something you are born with but is something that was installed in your brain due to circumstances/experiences. What CBT does is changing these beliefs because the beliefs holding you back are irrational. A girl is not going to slap you in the face if you start a conversation with her. Nobody is gonna shoot you if you tell a girl you like her. People are not gonna make fun of you for approaching a woman. People are not gonna call you a pervert because you feel the desire to have sex with a woman. .... But many people with approach anxiety do have these crazy beliefs deep down their mind that something bad will happen if the start a conversation to a girl. CBT tries to show you that this not true. It contains of a cognitive part and a behavorial part. The cognitive part is all about detecting your beliefs that are causing your anxiety. Once you have them detected, you reframe them to a more correct version of reality and you start reading them to yourself every day so that in the long run these more rational beliefs get downloaded into your brain. The behavorial part is all about doing experiments in field that proof you that your old beliefs were false. But this has to happen in the right way. You cannot make too big steps. These experiments have to be chosen wisely or the therapy will backfire. |
