Why does it seem like every romantic comedy follows the same model? Has ANYONE in real life seen it play out this way?? One big thing is...Guy/Girl are GREAT friends...then somehow it turns into them hooking up...then BAD EVENT...then IT ALL WORKS OUT...I personally feel that one of two things or going on...or both 1. There are so many guys in the friendzone who want so badly to be with their friend that watching movies based on this structure gives them hope n as such it SELLS. 2. The vast majority of guys are that big of losers, that they honestly think THAT is how it works. That you have to befriend a girl and somehow magically transition into a relationship. In any event, I feel that a HUGE amount of guys are getting programmed into this way of thinking. To me it seems like a huge disservice to alot of men to get this type of programming THROWN in their brain. There was a study that turned out to be a happy accident. Their was a chimp (98.6?? [I know it is 98.something] the same dna as humans) who was hooked up to brain monitoring equipment. He was being watched crack a coconut. A trainer just happened to walk in and try to crack the coconut as well. When the chimp watched him, his brain activity was the same as when he attempted to crack it himself. It shows that we are sympathetic beings, and can experience the same emotions and such by watching something as actually doing it. As such, seeing this model by watching other humans ACT, we can experience the same emotions. Knowing this, watching movies where friend ->lover models are in place is in all reality programming this mindset into a huge amount of the populous. What are all of your thoughts on this type of mass programming?? Are you for it, because it keeps you a step up in the game? or are you against it, because it gives a false model, who's outcome is the RARITY, not the rule? Are you somewhere in between?? |

watch before sunrise and watch before sunset nobody is mass programming on purpose ... there are alot of afc guys , the guy who made that movie could be afc as well.. 'there are enough movies where couples die etc. Nobody thought us something about love or dating so if you watch one of these movies you are likely to copy it because you have no reference experiences. yes mass programming does happen , but more likely in magazines, commercials and that kind of stuff. i say most people program themselfs because they allow others to program them |

I have and they are both INCREDIBLE!!! Kevin bacon and that french chick are great. It's such a character driven REAL romance that is destroys the mold I agree. Especially with before sunset once you find out the REALISTIC outcome from before sunrise....ya those r both some of my fav romcoms!!

Only if you let it get through to you...... Come on. Your opinion on fellow men is pretty low if you think Hollywood romcoms makes them total chodes. Think about it. This is just a symptom. The actual cause for people to be chodey can be found in their youth. Dudes that go all whiney over romcoms pretty much only do to reinforce already existing ideas on romance. |

Hollywood feeds to peoples secret desires, they all ant this eternal happiness that you can get with next to no work. You just go out on day, randomly meet someone and amazingly, you fall deeply in love and live happily ever after. Its laziness combined with dreams that draws people into the theaters, people don't want to watch a movie about someones tragic life, cus hey see it through their own eyes everyday. |

This shit can accually work, but only in one scenario, the guy has to be a very good gamer and the girl has to be somewhat stupid, other than that I don't think so. As far as it goes for programming, I think that it is good to see this type of movies, so you can see what NOT to do, cause that keeps you in your frame, unfortunately 95 % of the guys think, that that's how they should do and that's what should be changed not the movies.

Alright guys, enough with the misguidance. follow-up on my previous post: Does a romcom tell you directly that's the way you're supposed to behave? No, you're telling it yourself. Mostly by identifiying with the male. Connect your situation (which might be COMPLETELY different, coz you're a needy motherfucker) with his. Voila, everything the female counterpart says=your answer. There is no secret 'desire' being fed (the desires you have a s a male have been around since the beginning of mankind) no one is telling you to believe anything. You do it yourself. |

If you ask me it's has no bad effects on us. Social Conditioning is a part of life. I wouldn't say I hate it because every single one of us are in one way or another enjoying it's privileges as well as suffering it's flaws. Think about it, the average chode who never discovers PUAing might continue being that way. Less rivals, more wimmin. |

movies are just the tip of the iceberg. Family often times teaches you values that can directly or indirectly cripple your future relationships...e.g. gentleman staff. Girls often are raised in these conditions and as a result expect such a SPAM. Especially in Russia. If in USA you can show non-neediness by not buying girl a drink, in Russia, you'd simply be considered cheap and girl won't go out with you. About movies not telling openly you that it is how relationships work-FALSE. Humans learn through imitation so to show how to do something and show successful result is equivalent to openly saying. If all you've seen is guys making friends with girls to hook up with them, most likely that's what you'll do too. |
