I've been thinking, most awkward creepy or otherwise dorky behavior comes from rapport seeking, directly or indirectly. Most cases I can think of off hand are in some way shape or form an attempt to gain rapport or force it. When I analyze my own behavior & think about the "less charismatic" things I do most are knee jerk reactions motivated by the belief in a need for rapport. & most of the times I was "on" was because I felt like I already HAD rapport so I felt dominant and comfortable. I think charisma is really just the result of the combination of subtle dominance and comfort that causes your real personality to shine. But it starts in not needing rapport, if you think you need rapport you can't be comfortable, if your not comfortable you can't be dominant. |

Interesting theory, but I don't think charisma has anything to do with rapport... Only high valued people are not afraid to break rapport, but you have to have it first in order to be able to break it. What are you saying, that you shouldn't seek any sort of rapport to come across as charismatic? I think "indifference" is the word you're looking for... |
