It's pretty obvious that a lot of techniques in PU have their genesis within the sales industry. The fact that we "open" and "close" "sets" rather than "talk to" and "fuck" "women," says a lot. A lot of the big commercial PUAs are also great internet marketers, unsurprisingly. There certainly are some useful parallels. In PU, you are essentially "selling" yourself. You're doing your best to make a positive first impression, "hooking" with an amusing opening comment, delivering what is essentially a "pitch" (DHV story) and hoping to solidify a mutually agreeable next step (n-close, bounce, etc) before trying to "close the deal" without being too pushy. HOWEVER There is a big big difference in mentality that underlies being a great salesman, and being successful with women. A great salesman will learn how to adjust his body language, tonality, expressions, and the length and style of his pitch to match his perception about the prospective customer. He would have to be an idiot to bang on about value to the billionaire who only cares about the highest quality, and he has to ditch the jargon and speak simple common sense to the first-time buyer who's feeling overwhelmed with options and choices he doesn't fully understand. The salesman has to modify how he comes across in order to seem as amenable and likeable to every single customer, and completely adapt to their mannerisms in order to make as many sales as possible. If he stays too rigid in his personal beliefs and way of talking and acting, he will only make sales to people who would already buy anyway, or who share his views. If he is not subtle about how he goes about mirroring and adjusting to suit the customer, he will come off and disingenuous and slimey. The temptation, I think, is for aspiring PUAs to assume that a great mPUA is able to get ANY girl because he can find exactly the right thing to say / do to make her like him. First of all, this is IMPOSSIBLE from the very outset. Some girls, no matter how tight your game is, will simply not be interested. They'll be in a really stable committed relationship they have no intention of leaving for ANYONE , or you're really not their type at all, or you remind of them of their dirty cheating scoundrel of an ex-bf, or a million other things. More importantly, this goal is also totally the wrong way of thinking about it. In sales, I have a number of sales or amount of money I need to make per month. I have to make it or I lose my job. My personal values, the kind of people I would socialise with, etc. have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. If a right-wing defense contracting scumbag is interested in my product, I'm going to build rapport with him about how leftie commie scum are destroying the planet, and then take his money, if I can. If I'm looking for a GIRL to have a relationship with, however casually, then who I am as a person has EVERYTHING to do with it. My attitude is "this is who I am, this is my humour and personality, I know I'm awesome." If she's down with that and gets me, then let's hang out. If not, I'm really not interested in continuing the interaction because I can just as easily find another girl who IS, and then the interaction will be a million times more fun and the sex will probably be a lot better. Blondeguy. I would like to expand on your thread. Basically. It does not matter what job you end up doing for the rest of your life. For fuck sake get into sales for a bit. It all about selling YOURSELF. You don't sell a lamboghini, they sell themselfs. But trying to flog franking machines, or windows if tough. Especially on the phone. If you can do that respect. There are a lot of good older sales guys out there that have some AWESOME lines and routines that can be adapted readily to pick up. Whats more they will teach all they know for free. But a word of warning. Don't be so quick to tell the ladies you are in sales from the off. A lot of women see men in sales as serial liars and love cheats. (fact) Here are some pearls from a high flying design engineer who instructed me. John Everybody has to be a bit of a salesman nowerdays. Selling yourself is essential in self development. (Its self motivation) I could spend thousands of pounds sending all my staff of courses to improve there sales/customer service skills and above all MOTIVATION. WHY BOTHER. JUST EMPLOY MOTIVATED PEOPLE. |

good thread. IMO blondguy is talking more of a relationship where girl actually knows who you ARE. Also trust is important. johnchangmai on the other hand talks more about one night lays IMO. If you simply want to get laid-then selling yourself is very important. If you want a relationship with a high-quality girls(looks+brains+personality)-you better be a lamborghini. Or find a girl who likes your type(and I'm not talking only about looks here) |
