David D recommends this - "she'll be impressed when you call".

I admit this does sound quite cool. Anyone here use this method?

Unfortunately it requires cognitive effort, to which alcohol is not conducive. So memorizing her number in a club might be hard to do.

There are probably some handy tricks for learning phone numbers on the spot - know of any?

in england mobile numbers are 11digits long including the preceeding '07', so i either memorise the last 9 in triplets or break it down into little portions that have some kind of patterning or whatever

e.g. a double 7, a triple 7 or if someones number goes 123 or 456 or say if you got 8786 id see it as 87 and 86. this way its nice and easy to remember.

I used to do this when i didnt have a mobile/couldnt afford to even buy a shitty one. I also do it to memorise my own number.

but if ive got my phone on me, i just use that :P

There is no way I'd bother with this. When I want a girls number I hand her my phone and say "Put your number in there", simple, effective and very little cognitive effort is expended :D

Better use that memorizing skill to remember details and conversations... She will be more surprised when you remember her favorite dessert than her number.

* Remembering her number (Nerd, stalker, geek)
* Remembering any detail or conversation (Sweet, seductive, gentleman)

Wouldn't work for me.
I always get them to put their number in my phone, then I call them straight away so that:

1) I've got their number saved in my call log
2) They now have my number in their call log
3) I can check, on the spot, if the number is fake (it never is, they would normally just say no).
