so i'm a freshman in college and when i went othe rugby house one night, a kid called me "Rye the Rookie" and i asked him where he got hat from and he said its cause i am a freshman. this guy is not that much bigger than me. i definitely didnt like it. he stated it all night and would pat my back and rub my hat on my head, fucking douchebag i wanted to hit him, but i just bit my lip, and said stuff like "hands off the merch" and would just pat him back, and rub his head back. this didn't really work toowell. how do i get around this? tips would be much appreciated. -Rye |

Your going to learn that house parties are tricky places to run game, the number one rule is your always the guest. Im going to take a guess and say that the guy giving you shit lived- or was close to someone from the house you were in. When you goto a house party, first thing you do is forget about the girls, game the people who live in the house. Then once they accept you, then you can work them as pawns and pivots all night long, not to mention, people who live in the house will add to your social value that evening. If this guy was bugging you all night then he wasnt in every set, if you take my advice your golden i promise. field test it and let me know how it helps. I love house parties, the absolute easiest places to get some strange. |

Absolutely talk to and befriend the owners of the house first. Then if someone calls you rookie. Tell them, "First round draft pick, bitch!" and continue conversation. |

Rye, Tyler Durden of Real Social Dynamics talks at length about what happened to you. He calls it "framing." This guy framed you as "rye the rookie" and patronized you by giving you the name and patting you on your back all night. It not only can be an ego blow, but it puts in you a DLV circumstance all night. TD suggests 3 ways of dealing with it. 1. No emotion - if you want to brush the person off, show no reaction whatsoever. Kill all the energy in the communication and stare at him like he's crazy. This will make him appear hyper. It furthermore conveys the idea that what has just been said to you is so far outside of your reality that it doesn't even make sense to you. You're never treated this way. 2. Change the topic - without missing a beat, go to a DHV line or funny story. Act like what has just been said never happened, and instead establish your value. 3. Delay the response - comply with what they're asking but delay it. Through some DHV out there, raising the temp of the conversation, then return with a confident smile to the reponse. A fourth and less discused tactic (yet perhaps equally useful) is the classic "what?" "wait, I didn't get that, huh?" "say it one more time." Repeat until the person either is shouting like an idiot or drops it. The other examples of framing that TD admonishes about are "hey, so tell me soemthing funny, you're a funny guy" or "impress me." Even "watch my drink." Hope this is useful for you. |

so it sounds like you are both on the rugby team? or did I misread that? Anyway... yeah, I was going to say something along the lines of Meth, that would be my route. Like he said, ""First round draft pick, bitch!" or you could also take his neg and turn it into a compound, DHV and then a DLV on his part. For instance, "Rookie of the Year" and then make a comment about him being washed up and teaching him how its done. |
