Post subject:  The Power of a Smile

Hey guys,

My issues with girls have always been related to my Inner game (false beliefs,..)

But that doesn't mean I can't make Outer Game changes as well, I think work on both ends can help.

One change that I really want to make is to smile all the time (or almost), and I'm not talking about the hugest smile you can make like if you won millions at the lottery, but more like a confident smirk-smile that expresses confidence and positive feelings.

Think about it, who looks the most approachable: someone with a smile or someone with a depressed look on his face?

When I take the subway I see all those depressed faces.

I remember there was an interesting social psychology study:

1 group of people had a pencil between their teeth, this activates the muscles you use to smile.

The other group of people had a pencil between their lips, this doesn't activate the muscles you use to smile

Both groups were asked to watch the same Cartoon, the group with the pencil between their teeth rated the cartoon as being more amusing than the group with the pencil between their lips.

Here's a wikipedia link that I found about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facial_feedback_hypothesis,

The main idea is: "an individual who is forced to smile during a social event will actually come to find the event more of an enjoyable experience"

When I see people in the subway I see depressed faces, I feel like I live in a really poor country where there has been a war going on or something like that and that doesn't make me want to approach them.

I don't think it will be easy to train myself having a smile on my face most of the time, but I'm focusing on that for the moment, and if that doesn't work I'll walk al day long with a pencil between my teeth.... :D

You shouldn't walk around malls with a big fucking smile on your face, it's just not natural, nobody does this. However, what you can do is, smile at people passing you by (along with eye contact), this will be natural, as it's like saying hello.

And remember ALWAYS smile on the approach. This took me a long while to integrate, but once you start doing it, it's impossible NOT to smile when you approach.

Actually sometimes if your happy on the inside you cant help having a smile on your face? Nobody does this?

Who dictates what you can or cant do? If you feel happy and wanting to smile I sure as hell wouldnt try to make it into a frown because its normal.

That's true, and I can't tell you what you can or can't do, but as the original poster said he was training to smile all the time, so it wasn't natural in the first place.... also, can you name 1 person who has a smile on his face 24/7... I can't... it's just not natural.
