Hey guys, I know this isnt a pick up related question but thought i'd see if anybody had any good suggestions. Basically i'm best man to one of my mates who's getting married in 3 weeks. I didnt think i would be, but as the wedding gets closer im starting to worry about the best man speech. I've known my mate since we were kids so should have some good stories but most of them aren't suitable for the wedding really and i dont want to embarrass him too much not too mention make a fool of myself. So if anybody has any tips on how to give a good speech, or any good one liners or generic stories/jokes i can tell or has any links to good speechs online i'd really appreciate it. Had a look on youtube and while there is some great stuff on there its all pretty much the same stuff recycled. Anyway, Thanks in advance. |

I would say that you need to have some humor but not too much. You need to tell a story that is moderately embarrassing so that even grandma can enjoy it. Plus it is nice if it shows something good about him in the end. If it has a cute twist to the embarrassing start that would be awesome. And tell him with that story what it is that you appreciate the most about him. Everyone will like it and be happy and you will win the best man game. |

You're starting from the wrong mindset. The important thing is not what you say but how you say it, and this has never been more important than in speechmaking - I've had quite a lot of experience speaking in front of large audiences. Confidence is not a choice. You have to breathe confidence. As long as you're confident, the audience will be confident enough to enjoy you, confident enough to laugh at your jokes, and confident enough to relax. How do you get confidence, if you're not already? In this case, preparation. Preparation begets confidence. You should definitely memorize the speech. Then have it to hand just for comfort. Speak slow, pause, range your tone. Everyone loves you. It's much like pickup in that to begin with, people will value you by the value you give yourself. If you think you're not a good speechmaker and the audience will not laugh at your jokes, guess what, they won't. And, the opposite is also true. As for lines, the 'best man' commercial market is relatively huge for such an event, there are a myriad books and info on shit, and frankly, given that you've been chosen as his 'best man', you, more than anyone else, should have the right kind of information to hand that you can use. |
