I was gonna put this in the general discussion section but I guess I don't have enough posts. I was just wondering if anyone else here studied Myers Briggs Personality Typing (or MBTI) and related it to PUA at all. For those that may be vaguely familiar with the theory, Myers-Briggs (MBTI) is a well respected theory that breaks down people into 4 letters for their personality (INTP, ESTP, ENTJ, etc) and says there 16 total unique personality types. It also breaks people down into 4 subgroups NT (intellectuals), NF (idealists), SJ (guardians), and SP (artisans). It has been something I have been studying in my free time for about two years now and I think it can relate closely to PUA since different types of women react more favorably to certain styles and routines. For example: SPs (Artisans) - Tend to be the girls that are out at clubs and bars and seem to be the girls PUAs are most often targeting. They are the one's that are always in the middle of the action and looking for attention. Push-Pull works very well with them. NFs (Idealists) - These girls are the ones that can be found in the fiction sections of libraries or bookstores, or they could be out supporting their ideals as activists or something else where they want to change the world. It seems like commonalities and respecting/agreeing with their views work better than push-pull. NTs (Intellectuals) - These are the girls that are very intelligent and can be found in politics or reading non-fiction books on just about anything. They are intellectuals and it seems the best way to get them interested is meaningful and interesting conversation. I think these types are the toughest to game. SJs (Guardians) - These ones can be found at the club but they are usually not as open to new people as the SPs. They are also more of the family type and usually hang around with close friends. These girls can have the major bitch shield that is tough to get past sometimes when they are not open to being bothered for new experiences. This is obviously is a very basic outline. I have much more thoughts on how MBTI and PUA can be used together effectively. I was just wondering if anyone else on here studies Myers Briggs and sees a correlation to PUA? |

You can DHV / build comfort by telling a girl what type she is and what that means, basically a cold read. I wouldn't apply it any further than that. I think it's about a meaningful as astrology but whatever floats your boat. |

I recently started studying this specific field of psychology at uni. In about 7 weeks I will know more and sure will share it. What I do know thus far is that everyone has some traits of each group(extravert material, extravert social, introvert material, introvert social), the amount varies, thus you always have a specific style you stick to. This is very basic though. |

New poster; long time reader... I'm pretty big into Myers Briggs, a friend of mine turned me onto it. Not only is it good for cold reads and beginning conversation but I actually find it helpful beyond that in relationships and in the workplace. There are the 4 types that the OP talked about but it breaks down into 16 categories and it is surprisingly accurate, beyond fluff astrology and stuff. Knowing some of the personality types you can get a sense of where they are coming from and why people act a certain way. I know for me, as an INTJ, our type doesn't express/communicate affection as well and that was an issue in my last relationship and by 'knowing' my type, I'm definitely a lot more self aware of how people can take or misinterpret my actions, especially if I know their personality type. The thing about these types though, when you take the quiz and you know yours, your personality type is pretty hardwired and then complemented with your experience. So even though I'm an INTJ, just learning through high school and college made me outgoing and I'm more willing to be extroverted than I used to be and in comparison to some of my other INTJ friends. But as I said, it's interesting stuff and it definitely helps I think as a good convo topic and as something you can apply daily. |

Nice. It's cool to see that other people here study Myers Briggs as well. I usually test as INTP/ENTP. This site seems to be an easy place to figure out what your type is: http://www.mypersonality.info/ I'd still like to ask the people that are familiar with it, do you think that you adjust your game at all depending on what the girls MBTI type is? |

So, Ambiguous7, you're saying that one of your personality traits tests sometimes as either Introverted or Extroverted. Doesn't that kind of show that this test is a load of crap? From the website: "An individual is either primarily Extraverted [sic] or Introverted An individual is either primarily Sensing or iNtuitive An individual is either primarily Thinking or Feeling An individual is either primarily Judging or Perceiving" Really? Are they? I would say that most people are one or the other of those depending on the situation - what they're thinking about or experiencing, who they're with, what's going on at the time. I'm extroverted when I'm out with my friends. I'm introverted when I'm at home chilling out by myself. I'm thinking whilst writing this post right now, but I'll be feeling when I meet up for a day2 with a girl later tonight. Etc. Putting people's personalities into these dichotomous pigeon-holes is exactly the kind of thinking that Donnie Darko is reacting against when he has to put situations into either "Fear" or "Love". People are far more complex than that. There are tons more kinds of metrics that you could use to define someone's personality - for example Abstract vs Concrete, Linear vs. Non-Linear, Visual vs. Non-visual, etc. Why just those 4? As critics far smarter than myself have pointed out, "With regard to factor analysis, one study of 1291 college-aged students found six different factors instead of the four used in the MBTI." And "neither the Myers-Briggs nor the Jungian models offer any scientific, experimental proof to support the existence, the sequence, the orientation, or the manifestation of these functions." Which makes sense given that "between a third and a half of the published material on the MBTI has been produced for conferences of the Center for the Application of Psychological Type (which provides training in the MBTI) or as papers in the Journal of Psychological Type (which is edited by Myers-Briggs advocates). It has been argued that this reflects a lack of critical scrutiny." I'll say. As I said, good for cold reads and DHV, not good for anything like actually altering how you game based on her "type" or your "type". The techniques most PUAs teach and use are generaliseable to female psychology and human nature in general - they'll work with everyone, no need to get any more specific than that. |

Blondguy, while I agree that people don't want their personalities to remain static, I do believe that most people settle into one of the 16 types once they develop later in life. If you are constantly self improving, you might not fit as well into one of the types. However, I use MBTI more of a measure to understand other people quickly instead of introspect on myself and what is my 'true type.' If you are interested in figuring out what your true type is though, you would have to study the Cognitive Functions of MBTI, which is a little more advanced than the basic overview and quick online quiz that was linked in the earlier posts. There are eight cognitive functions: Introverted Sensing, Extraverted Sensing, Introverted Intuition, Extraverted Intuition, Introverted Thinking, Extraverted Thinking, Introverted Feeling, and Extraverted Feeling. Basically, each person uses two Extraverted Functions and two Introverted functions, which shape their personality. Once you identify those and which ones you use the most, it is a much more accurate way of determining your personality type. This may be a little to in depth for an introduction to MBTI, but If you're interested in figuring out more about your type blondguy, I would suggest reading online about these Cognitive Functions. Here is a much more detailed personality test. It has 120 questions. It covers ALOT of personality traits into detail. It will show your strenghts and weaknesses. It definitly worth taking. www.personal.psu.edu/j5j/test When printed out you have 8 pages all about yourself  It's quite fun to see how your personality traits influence you. Example. I scored very high on morality. I don't like playing games and am straight forward and honest. This is probably the biggest reason I like direct game. |
