I have a dress shirt that I really like, and I saw a tie that goes well with it. only problem is it's a clip-on. I'm supposed to go out clubbing next week, nut i don't if it's better to go without the tie, or get busted with a clip on. here's a pic of me at a recent function with the tie. for some reason the code of the pic without the tie won't work.

is is socially acceptable to wear clip-ons? its the only tie I own.

I've also started brainstorming ways to turn it into an opinion opener. any ideas?

Unless you're in a situation where you're 100% sure someone's not going to pull on it and "out" your tie, I'd go without. From a style perspective, I'd think of it almost like being caught wearing a wig. However, it looks fine in the pic, so if you can get away with it, go for it. In the meantime, go out and find yourself one or two real ties so you don't have to worry about it :)

As for using it to open, that's an interesting idea, but you want to be careful who you do it around. I'd avoid doing that around style-conscious sets who look like they dress up frequently - they are likely to look down on something like that. However, if you can identify people who don't seem to be too familiar with formal occasions or aren't too comfortable being dressed up, it could be a great way to break the ice!

For the club unless they require a tie or its a dressy club I will drop the clip on tie. As far as clip on ties goes I would say its more socially acceptable for a 8 year old to wear one but not some really past the age of 18.

This is where a true PUA comes in...If anyone even thinks about making fun of you or anything of that nature, talk about a time where a fight started, and you tried to help this girl who was getting hit from this douchebag who was really drunk. While you were trying to protect this girl, the dude grabbed your tie and tried to twist it around your neck. Luckily you ain't no chimp, you were able to kick his knee out and drop him to the ground. After that you managed to get the girl safely out and no one was hurt. But ever since that moment you knew your safety mattered more, so a clip-on was a much safer choice in places where danger might lurk.

I say shit like that because im a security officer, and i always wear clip-ons. :D

Dude, lose the tie. Unless you have a stylin' jacket to match, this look makes you look like a waiter at one of those chain restaurants. Unbutton the top 3 buttons on that shirt and let it lose. Also . . . I'm not a big fan of opinion openers of "myself". Why the hell do I care if some random chick thinks I should go with a blue or silver tie?

Very well put. This is one of the main reasons I can't stand certain opinion openers. If you're so worried about the tie and whether or not it's "socially acceptable", get rid of it. Simple as that... and if you do wear it, and some girl gives you shit, tell her about the last time you wore a tie and some girl was pulling on it while you fucked her from behind and it got ruined cos the knot was so tight you couldn't undo it.

No tie. Wear a nice jacket a watch and necklace or ring and your golden.
