Post subject:  The "awkward" Christmas Party. Should I bother?

Hi guys

Im typing up my Personal Pet Project as I type this (details will be posted within the next week I was busy yesterday).

One thing came to mind and that was "Organising a Social Event". Now I have over 8 years of clubbing, party experience and one thing that I cannot think of being worse is the dreaded Christmas Party.
I can make decisions for myself, however since writing up this project I'm having second thoughts.

Now I "get on" with practically all the people I work with, but here are the top three reasons I HATE Christmas Parties
a) Piss poor planning. Very little taking into consideration if peope would enjoy the venue/events, things to do.
b) My work collegues are not my friends. Remember a teacher you really got on with in High School? Can you remember the awkwardness when you'd see them in the Supermarket?
To me Christmas Parties and work collegues are 1000x times worse than that.
c) Drunken guys who try and AMOG, by getting drunk, making jealous cocky, statements in front of everyone to the point you'd wanna punch their lights out if they weren't your workmates and getting off the with the (drunk) office slags and claiming to be players.
d) Alcohol....I know we ALL find the party awkward, but no amount of booze is going to make us realise this was a bad idea.........
e) Pathetic Sexual Inuendo and 50 year old ladies trying it on with you. So after running out of conversation (usually 5 minutes in) someone attempts to get "scandolous" by forcing "who fancies who". This involves girls I wouldn't give the time of day to saying "Uh no in your dreams".

As PUAs I know about be Alpha, be in Your Own Reality, maybe even join in.
BUT- considering how much face you can lose in such an awkward environment I'm thinking about flaking on this years event.

Whats your opinions?

Your colleagues sound awful.
I don't know what kind of work you do or what ambition you have, but networking is always important and it generally looks good if you show up to these things, especially if your boss is there. So if I were you, those would be the reasons I'd go, if they are valid reasons for you personally. Also, if there's one or two people you actually like or care about in any capacity, it maybe selfish of you to not go and leave them to suffer the awfulness alone.

Well I have never been out with this bunch of people I work with, it could be a totally different experience.
As far as work goes its just a job in telesales to tye me over, whilst Im studying for psychology. I've only been on the job 3 months.

I did have a very bad experience with the last group of people I worked with, however they were as bad as I made them out to be. Cynical, go no-where, self loathing types when they got drunk and decided to take it out on each other- including me.

In all fairness my only concern is one guy I do not get on with, (I mentioned he's the guy who pretends he is gay in another thread).

Since writing that thread I have gotten in with the girls myself, by disqualifying them with genuine disinterest or qualifying them with rewards.

I think an "all or nothing" approach is needed for this party, and by getting in with everyone and being comofrtable with myself, I can have a great time.

Also I have a little "jealousy" triangle going on with two hot females- that the "gay" guy keeps interfering in.

hahaha... you need to get a better job with some hot receptionists. I used to work in a rebate processing center. 100 cubicles with everyone typing info from your best buy receipts. :P

Now granted, 50% were a mix of oooold people and fat people, but the other 50% were HB6+... It was a good job, but really got boring after a while.

Great advice. These things aren't mandatory, I worked in telemarketing as well and the people there were similar; going nowhere in life, don't think they cared too much either. I got out and went back to uni. Though there was one smoking supervisor MILF.
