As long as you aren't right against the speakers, then you'll be fine. They have restrictions on how loud it can get, otherwise it would be a health code violation. You may leave the club feeling like you've got cotton in your ears a few times if you hang out right by the speakers, like on the dance floor all night. |

I allways end up in bed with the mad ringing in my ears (I'm 18 - so im fair screwed for my later years). I think its ok when your not near the speakers as Rye Lee pointed out. But in some clubs good luck finding a quite spot inside that doesnt have a speaker within a few meters of you.. |

The loud music is terrible for your hearing in the long run, but people tend to exaggerate in their responses to these health threats. Sure, loud shit is bad for me, but I play in bands and go to clubs anyway. Sure, smoking is bad for me, but I do it anyway. Sure, drinking is bad for me, but I do it anyway. Sure, wearing clothes can give me cancer from the toxins in the artificial coloring in the fibers, but I do it anyway. Sure, there's a chance I could get STDs from having sex even with a condom, but I do it anyway. As long as you indulge in your vices in moderation, don't fucking worry about it. If you're freaking about every little thing you're not going to allow yourself to live life. Now, if you actually had a unique issue with your ears that most people don't have, that's another story. |

As already said, don't worry about it too much. I personally find clubs not too harsh on the ears, as long as you don't stand next to the speakers like Rye mentioned. If you go to see a lot of live bands, then you may want to take more precaution, I play in a band myself and just my guitar amp alone without drums etc is about 2-3 times louder than any club I've ever been in and it's the same with any gig I've ever been to. However if you are that worried about it you go can to a music store and pick up some earplugs for next to nothing. |

You can also try hitting more lounges as opposed to out-and-out clubs. The music is usually a touch less loud because they are trying to promote more conversation, and they've also got more spots around that are removed enough from the music that you can give your ears a rest while you're doing the rounds... |

I went to a "superclub" last night and the music was so loud I could barely hear myself and I left. Mind you most clubs have an outdoor area. Only problem with that is allot of those girls are the smokers |

I was talking to a sound engineer about this a few days back, it is bad and will aid in wiping out certain frequencies you can hear but all in all you should be fine. A good thing I do is to turn your music down before you start listening at home and your ears will tune in and grow more sensitive. This can also be a useful thing before you go out to slowly raise the volume of music so your ears are ready. Essentially your ears regulate the volume levels yourself. On a tangent, it is the same reason a lot of men start fights at clubs over 78dB fight or flight is initiated in some people, then have this going for 3 hours and factor in alcohol which reverts the mind to the cave man area of the brain and boom you have drunk guys starting fights. |

I hear with just one ear, so i'm taking good care of it. Recently I bought ear plugs who are made for disco's etc. It filters the sound without quality loss, in fact, the music will be much better and you're able to hear voices of people better. I really notice the difference, especially at the end of the night, when everyone's going home and every response is 'WHAT?' with me hearing perfectly. Oh, and don't worry about the funny looks or something. The couple of time someone notices it I explain where they are for and the common response is: "Cool I'm gonna buy them to". |

One thing that I found pretty neat. IF you both plug your ears you can hear the other person perfectly. You can play around with it |

I will shed some more light on this topic. This link shows the common misconceptions about loud music and tells you how much damage is actually being done. http://digital-recordings.com/publ/pubear.html |
