| Post subject: | Routine behavior and self-stigmatism |
This is something that I've noticed occur in my life many times. Often I'll move to a new place and it's really exciting. I start off doing well because I don't know anybody and every part of the day is new and full of untapped potential. But in time I fall into daily routines and especially with class I end up seeing the same people every day. It becomes predictable and boring and as result my interactions with people also become predicatble and boring to me. I'm no longer amused by the interactions I have, nor am I excited about the possibilities which i can steer them in. Consequently I find that I become stigmatized as being "such and such" a person. I think that's something that prevents growth for me. When people believe you're a certain way sometimes you just start acting like it. My rep at school is pretty good. I'm a good student and a pretty athletic guy. But I don't like reps. They're never 100% reflective of who you actually are and I find them to be repressive. I think I'm going to start doing some more spontaneous things and maybe stop hanging out with the same crowd every day. At this point I'd rather have any kind of new interaction than just the same old every day. The issue is that somehow I'm stigmatizing myself. I don't want to be subject to relativism. If you're relatively cool then that's dependent on who you hang out with. BUT if you're absolutely cool then that's just a fact regardless of where you are or who you're with. So i'm gonna try that out. I think i'll start by sitting in a different seat every day in class. I'll update next week and hopefully i'll have some cool stuff to say. CPT |
