Like most twenty-somethings, I've spent the last few days playing a whole lot of Pokemon GO. This game is amazing for a number of reasons--namely, it's fun and it encourages people to get outside and exercise. But the social dynamics involved here are also INCREDIBLE. There's never been an opportunity like this to go out in your town and start playing a game that will lead so quickly and easily to meeting people. (In fact, I'm honestly surprised that I'm the first to post on this.) I've been constantly running into people playing, and I've had some great conversations with other players. Most notably, about an hour ago, I ran into an HB 9 that was clearly playing the game (you'll know when you see them... People walking around holding phones with an expression like they're looking for something). She was with a friend (HB 7), but was easily led away as I helped her track down a Haunter (plausible deniability, serendipity, spontaneity, excitement). I know I could've gotten her number if it hadn't been for my ego whispering poison into my ear (she was only 18, I'm a decent bit older, so I let myself get paranoid about coming off like a creep). And of course, now I'm kicking myself, because looking back it's so clear that she was probably more insecure than I was in that moment, and that any signs of disinterest I was picking up on probably had more to do with her own ego making her feel insecure about being young, etc. If I had a time machine, I would go back and say something very simple before she left, like "Hey, have you played downtown yet? Let me text you later this week and we can go explore together," etc. THESE types of interactions are PRICELESS. This is an opportunity to go out into the world and open sets sooooooo easily, while building rapport based on discussion of a mutual interest. Granted, the hype surrounding this game may not last long, so I'd recommend taking advantage sooner rather than later. As for me, I'm hoping I'll see this girl again out there (it's a somewhat small town). If I do see her, I'll be ready. If not, there are plenty more out there. Stay hungry, Bobby |

now that i have been playing this for a couple of days i completely agree. there are an insane amount of people playing this game.. its so easy to spot them and for them to spot you. nearly every person i walk passed playing it is walking passed looking at me with a huge grin on their face when they notice i am playing it too and just waiting for me to stop and talk to them. i wouldnt reccomend using this for guys not in their twenties (unless you like girls in their young twenties) but if you are there are plenty of girls 18 and up playing and they ALL just seem to want to stop and talk... completely takes away any pressure from approaching and worrying about what to say because you instantly have that common ground |

TEAM MYSTIC REPRESENT Also, there was this gorgeous girl who was trying to flirt with me while we were both playing Pokemon Go in a shopping district but I was having none of it because: ![]() Seriously, though, the opportunities for pickup with this game are endless. I actually care more about catching the Pokemon than picking up these chicks because I've been a hardcore Pokemon fan for like my entire life (along with the fact that I've already gotten plenty of action from being into pickup for like the entirety of my adult life), but if I wanted to actually get laid I could be doing that every time I go out. The rapport and comfort is all already built into the interaction and it makes every interaction go by so damn smoothly. |

It hasn't hit officially in my country yet tho you can get the unofficial version. This is one of the best app ideas ever. Inb4 people that play candy crush or stalk Facebook all day say it's lame because they have more important things to do. |

It's both a genius game but it can be a bad thing. I tried playing it and holy shit my mind was wayyy to focused on finding that pokemon and I kept being oblivious to my surroundings. No wonder those dudes died. I am a person that can't do two things at once. Just be careful fellas, you don't want to be walking into neighborhoods you don't know |

Natural selection at it's finest. They died because they're oblivious idiots unaware of their surroundings. People have been dying taking retarded selfies for the longest time. It's not the game. It's the user. |

There have been stories of people being robbed because they wander into areas where they shouldn't be. I have read that robbers have figured out how to lure players to specific locations using some kink in the game. Sad really. The game isn't dangerous but the users playing the game can be. There are a lot of oblivious people out there. I heard from my buddy in New York City who witnessed a woman standing in the middle of the street and disrupting traffic to catch a pokemon. Pokemon Go has made interacting with people easier but at the same time added yet another distraction and compounded the problem with people consumed in their phones. |
