Post subject:  Headache Pills And The Fearless Robots

I recently came across an article that was based on the use of pain killers for the use of socail rejection, the pill was none other than ordinary paracetemol , that shit you can buy over the counter and you probably have a box full in your cupboarrd at home. So I want to open this up for a mature debate on whether the use of it is safe, a step forward, useful or whether we should just avoid going down this path altogether.

The science behind it

Basically Paracetemol reduces activity in the anterior cingulate cortex and the insula thus reducing pain, these areas are active when there is physical and social pain.

Scientists in the University of Kentucky attained a sample group of healthy students and gave half a placebo and the other half paracetmol they were asked to ingest a tablet once a day for 3 weeks and then they were given a questionnaire asking them about their feelings etc and they concluded that those ingesting paracetemol had less social anxiety and that they feared rejection less.

Ok so its only a questionnaire right ? Well it goes on The participants were placed in a brain scanner ( i think it was an fmri ) and were asked to play a computer game in which they were misled to believe that there was other students playing this game, when in fact it was just a programme . The game was simple it was just throwing a ball to another player it started off nice and then the programme became evil and just decided to not include the participant and exclude him/her from the game . We've all been there, probably in school when you’re playing some game and you instantly become invisible to the other players and no matter how much you wave your arms you’re not getting passed to, hurts like a bitch! Well they found from scanning their brains that the anterior cingulate cortex and the insula ( the areas associated with pain and social pain) weren’t as active for those playing the game using paracetemol and using a questionnaire afterwards the people using paracetamol seemed oblivious or just basically ' Not arsed that they were getting excluded from the game ' . They also rated themselves as feeling less rejected than those taking a placebo.

How could these findings improve or Worsen the community?

Well basically the first Idea that came to my head would be that people starting out could be encouraged to take a paracetemol tablet before they go out gaming. Imagine it your first time out gaming and you open a set you crash and burn and you just shrug it off as you don't feel as much rejection and you just move on to the next set and the next set crashing and burning and just shrugging it off until you reach that golden set in which you succeed . On a recap of that night all you remember is feeling good about succeeding with that one set the pain of being rejected isn’t there or you just don’t feel as much pain as you usually would.

I've personally been there getting rejected is sucks big time, I moved to London a year ago after pulling on average 3 women a night ( not much to the big dogs but it’s well above average) in my home city hardily getting rejected then going to London experiencing my first bitch shields getting rejected by women i would use as a warm up set and everything else in-between it hurt, it hurt big time, to be honest it set me back at least 9 months rebuilding approach confidence, I'm only now starting to get back to where i was a year ago but discovering this article it got me questioning that if i knew this back then and i was able to shrug off rejection i might have been able to keep my confidence and game , but whatever no point dwelling in the past ...onwards with this article !

So the problems with this information? Well of course there’s the obvious one dependency ..... People becoming dependent on a 'substance' ( at the end of the day that's all it is ) and needing to use paracetamol to go out pulling , that’s not what the community is about it's about improving yourself and your game .

There’s also the problem of people getting the idea of "well if paracetamol works this well then imagine what something stronger will do for me" If you’re thinking that then you’re wrong, painkillers work in specific areas of the brain and the nervous system blocking certain areas it just so happens that paracetamol is blocking the right area and neural connections that it is only paracetamol that will work in this manner.

It's Important to note that people who game of a night time 99% of the time they go out drinking and if you were to go out drinking and using paracetamol then you’re just going to get yourself in a whole heap of shit with your liver so yeah don't mix the two.

And it is widely known that pain prescription medicine is one of the most abused drugs that people use.

So I want to hear your Idea's. Could this information improve the community? if so how ?, improve oneself? or is it just opening up something that is best forgotten about ?

The next day I go out with a friend of mine that have a lot of AA I'll try a thing. I'll explain exactly what this post says and I'll give him a water bottle (nothing inside), I will see how placebo effect works, hehe.
BTW do you know if I can buy effervescent placebo at the pharmacy? It would be great.
