are they cool for a (american) college guy to wear fashion wise? i sure thought so but when i was at the mall with two girl friends of mine, they were both giving me the "tacky" look like its something their old man would wear. any suggestions or are these just 2 bad apples?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I love my leather jacket. There are several different styles, I would say to get rid of it if it has an elastic waistband or anything like that. My jacket has a shirt-style collar, I generally get compliments on it, especially on how soft the leather feels.

leather jackets are good if u r trying to go for the 'mob' look,
all of my russian friends have them( and i mean ALL)
so wehn u r out looks quiet intimidating when a group is all wearing leather jackets(however u have to match ur other clothin accordingly, dont be wearing track pants  )

I have a proper fitting leather jacket with quality leather. Nothing beats a nice leather jacket.

Just make sure it's made of quality material and fits you.

Depends on the leather jacket. If it's cool or not. Some leather jackets look tacky while some say bad ass.

Like previously said, it is a case by case thing. I've seen 2 coats of the same style, but cut slightly differently in the lapels or the length and it totally makes it uncool.

I got a free red (and I mean RED) leather jacket from a roommate that found it in his closet when we moved into residence at college. It didn't fit him cause he was too skinny, but it fit me perfectly and so I got a lot of good results even though I wasn't a huge fan of the style.

Now I bought a reddish-brown one from a pawn shop about 2 months ago and I'm in love with it. The neck is cut in a collar, so it doesn't have lapels, which is great, cause I'm not a big fan of most lapel styles. It has 3 inner pockets (love inner pockets, they're extra storage for all sorts of things as well as being very stylish as far flare goes when putting a pair of sunglasses on or pulling out your wallet) and 2 HUUUUGE front pockets that are basically what made me buy it, because I can keep all 3 of my juggling balls and my wallet, plus some other things in them at the same time. It comes down to about mid thigh and the sleeves are just long enough that when walking my knuckles are only a couple inches exposed. All in all, I'd say it is an amazingly stylish jacket made out of some great leather (made by Danier if anyone is looking for something like this) and it has an inner lining that can be zipped in for the colder months. I've gotten a lot of good responses from people that are retired, all the way down to high school students and yes, lots from college/university students.

So yeah, leather jackets can work extremly well, or they can make you look like an idiot (like the guy that gave me my first leather jacket), depending on the style, the fit (whether you fill it out too much or not enough), the length, colour, your personal style and other factors.

Depends on the look you are going for...I have posted some examples...

New-age leather jackets can be very fashionable - buttons, stitching, motorcycle-esque with different raw hide colors...however these can create that "bad-boy" look

Some leather jackets are cut like peacoats which can give a very "sophisticated" look, especially if you are dressed in suit/tie, khakis/collared shirt

Older leather jackets are just tacky many times

My personal leather jacket, much like the one Wolverine is wearing I find is often a very good peacocking item, when I go to bars or to a house party. I have one like the second for weddings, dinner parties, etc.

DO YOU! Do what fits you and your personality best, if you feel comfortable you are 10x more likely to be confident!

Eww, the only one that is good is the first one. That's got a similar collar to mine, but it doesn't have that long flap that hangs out.

It depends on your outfit. A lot of people wear leather jackets too often, hence making them look like a douche. Leather is more of a once and a while thing than an every day, or at least it is in my book.

This is my jacket...

I need to upgrade it, though...there's a reason Wilson's runs the 50-70% off sales at the end of the year.

When I'm wearing that and dark/black pants and black leather gloves, I get hitman comments frequently.

Not bad, but it seems rather plain.

It is...that's the style I like...clean and plain. I usually don't button it up, though, so the shirt I'm wearing can pull more attention.

I wore my leather tonight and she couldn't keep her hands off of me.

The key is softness.

My leather jacket is brown lambskin, and I have to say when I put it on I get a boost to my Game :)
