Recently Ive been practicing C&F, and to my disbelief other people saw it more of a smart ass comment.

Heres a scenario

I was waiting for the bus and since its the Rugby Worlds Cup I opened a guy to get me in the mood for conversations, I DHVed myself in the conversation, demonstrated that Im a friendly approachable person. There was women around in the area, and an HB7 went into the set and started asking directions whilst I was talking to the guy, so I C&Fed her with "excuse me, as you can see I was speaking and you just come in here and rudely interrupted our conversation. Obviously your mother never taught you any manners. :)(Smile)" she looked at me with a "your way up yourself buddy" and walked away, the guy then turns around and said "you dont have to be a smart ass like that" at which point the women in the area all walked away and I ejected with a thoughts floating around my head.

Whats your take on the situation?

Unnecessary, horrible... This is not cocky, funny, this is a weak display of game, just give her the directions...Then game her...

It was retarded, what you did.

Yeah, it's exactly what you have to be super careful of when using C&F: All cocky and no funny turns you into a douchebag quickly.

Not having a go, but isn't 'calibration' the next 'be confident' ?

CALIBRATE—verb: to read the verbal and nonverbal responses of a person or group and accurately deduce what they are thinking or feeling at that moment. Origin: Richard Bandler and John Grinder.

Nope, not really...

I say calibration and I mean it, not just repeating it. I mean, learn from what you did wrong. The OP obviously have gone over a limit, whether it is verbal or non verbal. This could be learned from looking inwards, what did he do wrong. Instead he looks for an external factor, like this girl was stupid and asks what we think on the forum.

So yes, people say calibration because it is the right thing to say. But unless you really mean it, it is useless.

As compared to be confident, anyone can be told to be confident and not know how to do it. To tell people to calibrate though is to tell them to learn from their mistakes and zero in on the correct level.

Thats not how you C&F , dont think of it as C&F just think of it more as "busting her balls". which includes facail expressions, posture, vocal tone, role playing as well as the obvious " smart ass remark" . Getting away with "busting her balls" can also depend on socail setting.

Dont knock yourself down about it though the only way your going to learn to do it , is by doing it over and over again in different situations till you start getting more positve reactions.

A better thing to have said in this situation would have been . " Dont listen to him , hes giving you the wrong directions" joking of course (and keep that scenario up , unless she seems to be in a hurry)

or

asking her if she even knows where she is and if she says no then to follow it up with " how does your family even let you out the house !"

but yeah keep putting yourself out there you will eventually get it.

If the name "Cocky/Funny" wasn't bad enough, the whole "busting her balls" gives even more of an impression that you're supposed to be rude to her.

Think of it as light-hearted teasing.
