I picked up a pretty famous musician chick last night that most of you know (especially if you're into more independent music). She's one of the most beautiful women I've ever talked to and am so surprised that this happened that I'm going to tell the story to a bunch of random internet strangers. I didn't actively try any of the "techniques" talked about on this forum but as I played the story back in my mind I realized a lot of them were there. I was at a (total dive) bar after work with a bunch of coworkers unwinding after a hectic week. I was dressed in a suit (I'm the owner of the company). My style is sort of hipster businessman I guess (I'm 33). She was sitting at the bar (I immediately knew who she was) by herself (that's odd...) and I went up to order a round of drinks for all my employees. The conversation went something like: I said: "I'm having a pizza party at my house later tonight and am trying to make a list of what ingredients to pick up at the store. What's your favorite pizza toppings?" Her: I love pizza parties OMFG. Bacon and red peppers are my favorite! Me: That's a good combination, I'll have to pick that up. So I'm only buying drinks this evening for people who have worked their asses off all week for me but you're welcome to come over and hang out for a bit. Her: OK She grabs a seat a few seats away from me. I introduce her to the table and she starts talking to some of my coworkers. I basically ignore her for an hour or so and talk to other people. She's not totally being ignored though as sometimes the conversation comes back and involves the entire table. She's having a great time. We're all getting ready to leave (I need to get back to my house for the pizza party I'm having). I realized I came off in the beginning as incredibly confident but I am really losing my nerve -- I mean, I've watched Youtube clips of this girl playing on Saturday night live. Me: Well I need to go get ready for my party, it was great to meet you. I think "Oh man, I just totally and completely fucked up this epic opportunity" Her: What? Are you serious? You totally have to invite me to your party! Me: Well, I dunno... it's really only open to my closest friends and we just met. Her: If you don't invite me I'm going to follow you back to your house and show up anyway, so why don't you just invite me? Me: Hmmm. What was your favorite pizza toppings again? Her: Bacon and red peppers! Me: Well there are a lot of bacon fans coming so you might fit in well. Here's my address... Blah, blah, blah. --- So she shows up at this party and all my friends are like "are you fucking kidding me?". I continue sort of ignoring her and being a good host talking to everyone. She is having a really great time and loving all my friends -- says it's one of the best parties she's been to in a while. It IS an awesome party. Toward the end of the night she comes out with an old crappy guitar of mine and plays a few songs for everyone. Around 3am everything is winding down and she grabs me. Her: Hey I saw that you have a pretty nice keyboard in the other room, is that yours? Me: No, it's my roommates. Her: Do you know how to play? Me: No, but I've always wanted to learn Her: I am fucking awesome at teaching people how to play the piano. Most people teach it completely wrong but I've figured out something that works really well. Me: Oh, that would be sweet Her: If you buy a few bottles of wine I'll come over tomorrow night and give you your first lesson. Me thinking: "How the fuck did this turn into her gaming me?" Me: That sounds great, I'll give you a call tomorrow. |
