I think the OP means geek, not nerd. Nerd is pretty much only negative, while geek just means that you are obsessed with stuff you like (which is often geeky stuff).

I think the geek persona can be played on, but you have to have stuff girls can relate to. Don't make it all about one thing, and learn how to talk about topics you know in a way it contains emotional spikes and compensate for the DLV geekdom may subcom. For example, when talking about video games, instead of talking about how you had a Gamecube and your favorite was Super Mario, you should just insert it into stories, like how that was the first game you played a lot and lot and how all the Game Overs on it taught you to just dust yourself off and try again if you failed, which was an important lesson in your life, then immediately transition this into a high-DHV story. At least that's my theory of it.
Somebody should write a guide, it could help a lot of us.
