For heavy weights you want to be coming down to knee level, but worth mixing it up with lighter weights where you drop all the way down to work the full muscle!

This. The old adage 'ass in the grass' can cause permanent damage under heavy loads.

If you're aiming for muscle definition deep is good.
Silent Mike has a very good video talking about this, search on YouTube.
However always stretch, if you get tight and your form fucks up: deep will hurt you.
Make any jokes about "that's what she said" and you'll end up in a creek (pun intended).
If you're a fat miserable fuck like me (115 kg 197 cm) and want to move lots of weight you should try to keep the range of motion very low.

ass to grass

its actually easiest on the knees and ensures optimal sweep in the thigh, and stretch in the glute squats will build your quads but its actually not a quad specific exercise at all. Front squats will target it more, especially if you're putting your heals on a slight lift.

Not true at all. I've been squatting over 24 years ass to grass is safest for your body UNLESS you're inflecting your pelvis/rounding your back.

Basically go as low to the point JUST before your back begins to round out - it should always be straight.

I did not say you couldn't squat low. I said heavy loads.

Your face is a heavy load. A heavy load of two gay men's seamen after a night at the bath house.

You gotta go all the way down to the botton. That's the most effective way.

As long as your cheeks are parallel to the ground you're alright. Depends on your height and weight.

This is from someone who squats 150kg plus with no issues and 220kg deadlifts +. You don't need ass to grass.
