Any tips for how to gain any improvements in such a short period of time?

Even if you go to the gym every day till the BBQ . I'd suggest go get a natural tan, buy a new shirt for the party and have fun.
It takes years to get a body you want. A forth of the time if you take steroids , which I really don't suggest you do.
But on a psychological point of view, going to the gym will probably inc your confidence about your body even if it's for a week. Gl homie
