I want to start a discussion on the best valued skill you guys have learned to help build a more attractive lifestyle. I'm doing a new thing each month to help develop into more interesting and skilled person.

For me, I already played piano and the last two months I learned krav maga and went backpacking a few times. This month I'm going to try salsa dancing.

What have you guys done that has been worthwhile?

Hi man,

Personally I think it could be anything, based on how you present the skills/yourself.

Krav Maga for instance could make you much of an alpha, but In my opinion it can easily be seen as arrogant. (again, just my personal opinion)

Personally my best guess on 'valued' skills are things which are easily seen by others; going to the gym would be the most practical example.
Learning another language is a good one too.

This is a pretty tough one. damn it your making me stop and think. I like to try everything at least one time that way I can relate in some fashion to what people are talking about and interested in.

I don't know about the value part of your question but my top 2

1) training to climb Mt. Everest and and complete the seven summits challenge.
2) private pilot license.

I would love to learn salsa and several other types of dancing but I have two very left feet :|

Not all doesn't qualify as "extra curricular", but:

Sales( extreme confidence boost)
Salsa and Swing Dancing( you can dance- implies you can fuck)
Public Speaking( Toastmasters)
Yoga( need I say more?)

Learning how to sell, hands down the most valuable skill I have learned over the years. Sales immediately exposes your weaknesses and teaches you how to overcome rejection. And you if you are fortunate to be trained by good salesmen, you can model them and use their techniques and attitudes in other areas of life.

A close second would be learning multiple languages. Since I live in the US and people generally have zero interest in learning a second language, when I tell people I can speak Spanish and can speak a little Japanese, I automatically become the most interesting person in the room.

Good advice on the language, especially if you're in the US. Most people here only know English so being able to speak any other language immediately sets you apart from 95% of Americans.

Speaking multiple languages is very useful. If you can speak to someone in their native tongue, it is an instant boost in market value. Its also helpful professionally. You can find online language tutors for very good prices, and immersion courses are typically the best way to learn.

Salsa is definitely one of my favorite activities an has helped a lot with my dance floor game. This may sound too broad or generic, but reading books is a great extra curricular. You read from any topic and be knowledge in many area so you can talk about many things and it can give you great insight in your own life. Reading biographies from very successful people or books on evolutionary biology and business, etc.
