| Post subject: | You dont sound very Australian to me...... |
I have a reoccuring issue when I am having a conversation with a girl but let me give you a bit of background. I was born in Australia my parents immigrated from wales a month before I was born with my older sisters, so basically i was brought up in a welsh accented environment and hence My australian accent was never as deep as other Australians, now six years ago I moved to wales and have inadvertantlly watered down my Aussie accent even more..to the point where some people cant even tell I'm Australian. So the problem is when I am talking to a girl and she asked where Im from and I say Australia she allways comes back with "you dont sound very Australian" with a kind of puzzled look on her face almost a disttrustfull suspicious look, I think the incongurntcy of my accent and the answer to where I am from is causing this issue. Now I can explain about my parents and the fact i have been in the uk for 6 years but this allways seem to put me off my game and I get the feeling like they dont trust me. My question is when a girl asks me "where are you from?" what would be the best answer, should I say Im from everywhere and quickly change subject? or should i lie and stretch the amount of time I have been in the uk by some more years? have any otrher ideas ? Thanks for any help |

i know how you feel mate, i get that sometimes aswell. Im from scotland but speak with an english accent when im with friends, so when i tell people im scottish, they say the same 'well you dont sound like it!' I usually just ignore it and go onto something else, but if theyve asked you outright then its difficult to do that. I dont know if it would work, but maybe try something like... HB: Where are you from You: You wouldnt believe me if i told you HB: Why not... try me You: Im from Austraila HB, oh, you dont sound like it?! You: *back turn, talk to other person next to you* Basically when she says that you dont sound like it, if youve already built some attraction, then ignore her a lil bit, do a back turn and let her work to get you back. |

Thanks E-ze glad im not the only one! might give that a try, just wished my accent hadnt gone... when I first got here (and still had a distinclly Australian accent) I was getting hit on by nearley any girl that heard my accent and did manage to f-close about 30% of the time I went out only hb 7's usually. and that was before I knew anything about game and was just cruising on my looks. I like your idea but the issue I have is I get "where are your from" usually just after I open . (I do not sound like a 100% brittish/welsh person but girls do notice a tinge of something and usually ask) |
