Post subject:  When they want their nickname explained

Hey guys.

Quick question:
I often nickname girls "goof, or goofball" if I can't really come up with something clever that relates to them in some way, and fits their personality. For instance if they're really heavily into cartoons I could find out their favourite character or whatever, you know the deal. I've also used the whole 50 shades theme and made them act as if they were miss Steele and I Mr. Grey. Great for roleplaying and turning things sexual.
It usually works well, but every now and then, I get girls asking me to clarify as to why exactly I would call them goof or goofball - "What makes you call me that? Why do you think I am a goofball?"
I always say it with a smile and in good humor with a nice tonality, but some girls seem to get REALLY stuck on it like maybe I think they're literally crazy.
What's the best way to handle it? Just ignore it, say something like "Maybe I'll tell you one day" or "That's just how it is" ? I'm thinking that if I start justifying why I would call them a goofball, I am somehow coming on as an AFC because I start explaining rather than just ignoring it and changing the subject.

You know that you do not have to actually answer any question, right?

You're no on Jeopardy. Just change the subject.
