Hey guys, I'm about to go on holiday with my girlfriend and an alpha male and his girlfriend... This thing is, the alpha male is my best mate! He's always been pretty athletic, likes attention and intelligent enough. I equal him in just about all these things but I don't fight for attention like he does. How can I combat this? I don't want him trying to tool me in front of my girlfriend even for 'banter' or laughs. He's a great guy and a really good friend but in the past things get competetive. Maybe I'm over reacting. He's my mate after all and he's not going to be a total dick. I just don't want any competition aspecially when we both have our girlfriends there! |

Talk to your friend about it. Tell him that his quest for attention is at your expense. It isnt cool. If you two are truly best friends, it should be the two of you against the rest of the world. You should be raising each others values instead of climbing on each other, try to really talk to him and plan some cool stuff. |

When i read this post, i instantly thought, just be non reactive if he trys to tool you lol! but Ezo's post is much better, no need for any 'gaming', just talk to him and attempt to resolve the issues. |

Right, I have a friend like that. Don't let it bug you man. If you have some kind of Folgers moment with him he'll probably get more "Alpha." You could always call him out playfully. Just once or twice.. Think about how to make fun of him when he start monopolizing the conversation. The silent hand mimicking a flapping mouth gesture works good. Also, give him and his girlfriend equal attention when the 4 of you are together. If you just focus on your girl, well that's lame. In my case, My girl is definitely more sexy than his girl (although she's awesome) but we all get on just fine. As long as you laugh about his "alphaness" once in a while.. |
