Hi, I stumbled across this forum and thought, "God, not another bloody pick-up forum!" but saw the thread about social shyness and thought I might join in and try to get a few tidbits as that's where I need to focus. When I go out, which is not very often, I get pissed off and bored and would much rather spend the night in watching telly or playing xbox. I find that being out in places where there are lots of unfamiliar people is very uncomfortable and I feel much more relaxed and comfortable indoors. Having said that, I wish I could be one of those people that are comfortable and relaxed in social settings and have fun and conversations as I don't think that being miserable is very rewarding. Anyway, I look foward to discussing this stuff. |

Welcome to the forum. Do you have problems with approaching and opening, or just with being involved with conversations in general? |

I have problems being involved with conversations in general. I have to be very lucky to find someone who I can connect with and share similar experiences with as general everyday conversation doesn't compute with me. I think what it is, is that I'm really deep. Most of the time shit has to be meaningful to talk about for a prolonged amount of time, and superficial stuff just doesn't cut it. The trouble is, I notice that when folk are chilled, relaxed and laughing about stuff it all seems to be superficial and I just don't get it. I may be just generalizing here and I'm sure there's more to it than that, but it certainly has the effect of making me a bit of an odd-one-out in social situations. |
