For example, today I went to bar with a friend. We got to chatting to two girls and it was all going very (lots of laughter). However, the fun vibe fizzled out after 15 minutes
Pay attention to these peaks, and ask them back to your place before the peaks drop. Asking them back to your place IS maintaining interest. And if they bail, so what? They never wanted to.
Do you want to sleep with them, or talk to them for hours? Be congruent.

Eventually they left after bumping into some friends.
You talked them out of it. Where was the invite?

How do you guys keep up either a fun/playful vibe or transition into more serious conversation?
Why would you want the conversation to be serious?

Whenever I start to talk about something serious/personal it seems like the girl quickly loses interest.
lol, of course. you need to be positive and chill with women. Spark positive emotions. And believe it or not, being super honest with a woman and asking her back to your place can indeed spark positive emotions.
It's insanely easy, when you're with a pal, to invite two girls back to your place. It should come up RIGHT AWAY, actually. "Hey, we're having a couple people over tonight".

How do you captivate a girls attention, keep her interested and maintain value during a conversation?
Tease. Be playful, use shocking honesty.
Her: So what are you guys up to tonight?
You (with a grin): Picking up girls, and partying back at my place.
Now, here's the wuss-ass beta response:
Her: What are you guys up to tonight?
You: Not sure, we figured we'd hit the bars a bit, see what's going on. You?
Different scenario:
You: So what are you two little divas up to tonight?
Her: We're meeting friends, drinking a bit. You?
You: Picking up girls.
Her: Oh yeah, how's that going?
You(with a grin): Very well.
Be congruent with your desires. Get to the fucking point. Tease, be sexually playful. Avoid weighty topics. Women want sex just as much as men (if not more so). You don't need to "convince" them of anything with long winded conversations.
