Listening to your plan acctually makes alot of sense. I can see why i do have pimples. for one up until recently all i did all day was smoke and get the muchies and do nothing but sit on the couch until i got put on probo and then found the game its giving me more of a purpose do have incentives to do something. another thing i always have a problem with is keeping my hands off mt face i don't know how many times my mom tells me that while im home. And last i eat the greasest food and shit that probly is the worst for my pimples my favorite buttered noodles i don't know why but it always was my favorite. also being in college means you drink alot and always crave the late night fast food i need to stop that now too. i think the main reason i eat so much is because i am one of those kids who can eat a shit ton and not gain weight, im going to stop proactiv because i wasn't seeing results im going to try your method and ill let you know how it works for me. Thanks

If it is bad you should go to a dermatologist and go on accutane. It is a miracle drug and will get rid of even the horribly disfiguring acne.

Actually i used to use accutane with amazing results. but it makes your face really dry and this is a true story.

I sleep with my eyes a little open and the accutane driied out my eyes at night and a serious infection started. i was about a month away from being completly done with the SPAM too. it was so bad and grew so quick that within 2 days i couldn 't open my eye it was tearing like crazy and when forced to open it to show the doctor litteraly no white at all at first i thought it was pink i went to my doctor he said it was serious and i have to see a eye doctor immediatly he gave me the best cornia doc i went he said it was good we caught it when we did if i waited one more day i would have lost sight in my eye. i had to put in eye drops every 15 min for 2 days then it slowed down to like every 2 hours then 5 until it was finally gone. my eye was red for like a week after it accutally looked kind of cool. if you look close and know where to look you can see a tiny scar on my eye bulb. the doc said i was lucky because if the scar was 1 milimeter to the right i would have had worst vision. Thats why i can't use it. but i recently signed up for a dermitoligist appointment.

I feel for you man but I cleared up and i had some dodgy skin which really bothered me so there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Try the forums at acne.org where you will get advice from people who know alot about the subject.

As for the whole redness with the pimples thing it sounds like you have irritated your acne making it actually worse. Perhaps you touch your face/pop pimples too frequently or maybe you just overmedicate your skin (too much harsh facewashes and/or creams).

The problem is everyone is different when it comes to clearing up. For me the main thing was not playing/touching my skin and I'm almost perfect at the moment though i do get bad periods.

Hang in there good luck with the girls mate.

also just skim reading over the above posts:

with all respect, the evidence for diet helping acne is pretty much none so don't lose sleep over eating normally. But be sure not to touch your face after eating greasy foods as this will clog pores (this applies for things like hair products etc.).

and that thing about your eyes drying out sounds mad! that must be pretty freaky that you sleep with your eyes a bit open lol

Dude I've tried EVERYTHING to get rid of acne. You name, I've tried it (as long as it's over-the-counter). But I finally got sick of years with acne, and I went to see a dermatologist. Follow their instructions EXACTLY like they tell you and you will be clear. I have been 100% clear since October, with the exception of a few red pigmentation marks (which I got a prescribed bleach cream for).

But you MUST follow the regimen. If they tell you wash your face and wait 15 minutes before you apply the cream, THEN DO THAT. Seriously, 15 MINUTES or whatever they tell you. Also, applying more cream will just irritate your skin and make you red and possible cause more acne.

So yeah, it's expensive but it will be worth it. Plus, your self-esteem doesn't have a price. Good luck man. I'm 19 too.

EDIT: If you're curious, I'm on Duac, Retin-A (both are creams), and an antibiotic called Doxycycline.

EDIT 2: I eat lots of junk and have no acne. Well not A LOT of junk, but enough to say that junk food doesn't cause acne, or maybe the meds are extremely powerful. I do drink green tea every day so that might help (along with other anti-oxidants).

Yeah I am on Accutane right now and have a month left, I play sports as well so I drink alot of water and gatorade mainly the G2 gatorade since its low on sugar, I try to stay away from candy, cookies and doughbuts since they high sugars. I read somewhere about going into a sauna to open your pores with the hot steam. I would change my pillow cases to since when you sleep there is alot of dead cells on the pillow from your face and dandruff from your hair.

Two words: Panothenic Acid (Vitamin B5). Its a cheap way to get rid of that ish. I think its eight dollars for 90 pills, each pill has 5000mg of panothenic acid in it. Its all natural bro (yes, im alluding to chapelle show)

I'm part of the acne.org messageboards and yes that helps but it will not CURE your acne. Seriously just browse those forums. Your best bet is to see a dermatologist.

Swallow all the pills and apply all the creams you like...until you get to the source of the problem (diet/exercise/not touching your face/etc), you will only be covering up and worsening a deeper problem, or even transferring what your body is trying to rid itself of to somewhere it does not belong.

Sorry to hear that accutane didn't work for you man, that's what really helped me. A few other things that come to mind...
-hair: if you have long greasy hair that grease gets on your face and causes acne, I'd recommend cutting it or at least washing it every day.
-wash your face lots: twice a day isn't usually enough if you have acne-prone skin. As a general rule I wash my face every time I wash my hands, after a while it just becomes habit and as a result your face stays cleaner.
-diet: ok so the link between a poor diet and acne has not really been proven yet but the link between stress and acne HAS been proven. Personally I find that a balanced diet helps reduce stress, resulting in less acne.

Those are just a few things that have helped me so I hope they help you. Good luck.

I'm gonna have to agree with Dream on this one. Once I started living a healthier lifestyle, acne was a thing of the past. I still believe that the biggest facor, however, is touchingyour face. Greasy foods already clog the pores and rubbing your face afterwards doesnt do anything but worsen the problem. If you're gonna eat unhealthy foods, make sure you wash your face with warm water afterwards to open up the pores. Working out seemed to help me alot. Since stress is a leading factor of acne, I found that working out relieved alot of it. Sweating helped too.

When you live healthier, you feel better. When you feel better, you are less stressed. When you are less stressed, you'll lower your chances for breakouts.

Processed foods are the worst you can have. Have a diet mostly in fresh fruits and veggies, preferably organic, and no grains, dairy, breads, and gluten. I don't suggest eating meat, but if you do, you do lol. Don't consume oxidized or cooked fats and do not worry about your protein intake if you eat mostly fruits and veggies. I eat a raw vegan diet and get stronger and build muscle. There is enough protein in what nature gave us. Don't bother with supplements, just eat natural foods that are ready to eat for you. There is enough amino acids in fruits and veggies anyway so its all good for you. If you do decide to go with supplements, go with a natural whey protein that uses stevia instead of artifical flavors and aspartame or sucralose. Aspartame and sucralose are neurtoixins and can be carcinogenic. So, stick to natural whole foods and it will go away for sure.
