i'm vegeterian and i was wondering if an members had any tips or advice on having variety in your diet and where you get your protein from. I eat a lot of soya products for protein and have heard and read lots of mixed views about it being bad for you

the best proteins come from animal. I dont eat beef myself, but i make up for the protein loss by eating chicken all the time. If your trying to gain muscle its essential to get more protein then normal and chicken breast is huge in protein.

Whey protein is good to use to, and is absorbed instantly by the body. But you dont want it to be your primary source either.


why are you a vegetarian?

Its really tough to have enough muscle, and have an ideal physique when you are a vegetarian. If it isn't for religious reasons, add some meat to your diet so you dont only have to use soy, whey and like tofu for protein. If you have to be a vegetarin than go with beans, cheese if you can, broccili.

i've been vegeterian since i was nine. 18 now. i have a big build because i used to eat lots of soya products, sometimes two meals a day that have soya in it, Its for personal reasons and i'm not going to change anytime soon. muscle isnt really the problem, i need to lose some excess fat to get into ideal shape, because its covering the muscle. i just wanted some variety in my nutrition. i do eat eggs and i know that is also protein. i'm the only vegeterian in the house and my family is indian, so a lot of curries and indian foods are made

i really envy your inner strength. I ve been on raw food for a couple of years now... i feel great. I am not 100% raw and i eat "meat/ egg / cheese/cooked stuff" here and there... but i m not sure i ll be able to be 100% vegan.

i m using a lot of seed in my diet and spices (cucurma is great and super healthy)
i don't eat so much soya for the same reason you read

beans are a great substitute and (i ve read) unless you have great loss of blood you don't need THAT much proteins.

i eat TONs of fruit and green veg

Since you are indian i think this receipt will be easy to be accepted by your parents:

rice + Black bean (the brazilian type) + cucurma + Oil ( get a Good, delicate one, like wine from Tuscany) - simply, healhy and good.

This is something you should be asking a nutritionist. I think you should make the switch to a vegetarian or vegan multi vitamin. The ones you are taking are meant to work with the traditional meat-laden American diet, and therefore you are probably not getting the balance of nutrients you need. There are children's chewable vegetarian and vegan multi vitamins, so if you really can't swallow pills ask a nutritionist to review one of those for you.

That's not strictly true. There are plenty of vegetarian athletes. Outside of the body building world we don't actually require all that much protein. In fact the average western diet has far too much protein in it.

Quinoa, chickpeas, pulses, lentils are all good protein sources. If you aren't vegan than eggs, cheese, milk can be added.

For proteins i try to eat more more nuts , almonds , peanuts , cashew and also peanut butter because these foods are rich in proteins and also these foods will give more energy to your body ..

Thus, add them into your diet everyday and no need to worry about lack of protein even though you are vegetarian. :D

Vegetable is very good for you because it has large amount of fiber and vitamin, but the percentage of fiber is much higher than vitamin. What fiber can do for you?

An inverse association has been found between fiber intake and heart attack, and research shows that those eating a high-fiber diet have a 40 percent lower risk of heart disease. Researchers have found that for every seven-grams more fiber you consume on a daily basis, your stroke risk is decreased by 7 percent.
Fiber supplements have been shown to enhance weight loss among obese people, likely because fiber increases feelings of fullness and slows carbohydrate metabolism. Fiber, particularly psyllium husk, may help move yeast and fungus out of your body, preventing them from being excreted through your skin where they could trigger acne or rashes. A high-fiber diet may lower your risk of hemorrhoids by preventing the need for straining.
I will recommend 2 of many kind of food that can show off fiber’s function. The 1st one is watercress.
Watercress is very low in calories, but contains phytonutrients like isothiocyanates and antioxidants with a plethora of disease-preventive properties. Gluconasturtiin, a glucosinolate compound providing the peppery flavor, is one of them, contained in the leaves and stems and providing phenethyl isothiocyanates, shown to inhibit carcinogens. watercress can be submerged in water and stored in the refrigerator for two to three days. Strawberries contain both types of fiber.
