For anyone who wants to learn how to dance for the express purpose of letting loose in a club, adding some style and attracting some women, see my other thread on Groove some-dancing-basics-groove-vt126351.html . That is what you should practice.

For anyone else who is serious about learning different styles of dance for their own enjoyment (or any other reason fitness etc) then I'm gonna post some of my favorite (and most impressive) clips, each sorted by style. I will also try to include tutorials/instructionals if I can find good ones, and I'll briefly describe what the style is.

There's countless vids out there and I've only seen a fraction, so feel free to add your own.

Popping - a style of dance created in Cali in the late 60's, it originally involved popping/hitting (tensing muscles quickly) to Funk music. The "classic" old-school popping style is called Boogaloo.

Popping has now grown into an umbrella term, incorporating many sub-styles including Tutting, Waving & Animation.

Waving - a sub-style of Popping that has evolved dramatically in recent years, basically looks like waves are created or going through the body. Waves have a start and a finish.
Its bastard cousin is Liquid (born from the Rave scene). Liquid is continuous flow through the body. Only astute observers can tell the difference.

Salsa is GREAT. Salsa is already a sexual dance and you will find women there who are the "forever alone" type that really want to meet people. It's easy to learn the 2 basic moves and you can learn more from experienced women and going to classes. Highly recommended!

Tutting - based on "King Tut" Egyptian hieroglyphics, a sub-style of Popping which focuses on 90* straight angles created by mostly the hand and arms. Finger-Tutting is self explanatory.

House-Dance - created in NYC, a style specifically for classic/Deep House. The main House groove is called the Jack. House looks like a mixture of Groove, Tap & African.

Newstyle - difficult to describe what Newstyle actually is, it's heavy on the freestyle aspect and there's not many rules, with emphasis on Groove and Musicality I guess you could say experimental with a hiphop flavor.

Locking - everyone's heard the term Pop'n'Lock but it's inaccurate. Popping & Locking are 2 separate dances. They are similar in that they both came from the West Coast and are traditionally performed to old-school Funk, but Popping seems to emphasize beats with heavy steady snares/claps while Locking favors a more upbeat style of Funk. A "lock" is like a funky freeze.

Hip-Hop - just to clarify, the real OG definition of Hiphop is BBoying or just Partyrocking, that's what Hiphop is. The word these days, especially in the mainstream now views Hiphop as the style made famous in music video clips. These are really just Modern-style dance moves (along with Popping and other styles) done to commercial pop/hiphop/RnB.

Animation - as it sounds, it is making the body look animated. This style is made up of concepts like slow-motion, strobing, isolating & vibrating.
