That's old AFC advice by Gary Chapman who has a doctorate in Philosophy. He sold 10 million copies of his book based on his experience with ONE woman.
Based on couple counseling, multiple couples... This is more for relationship type management in mono long term relationships, specially marriages... I have field tested it does have a lot of legit stuff...The audiobook is somewhere in youtube...
Before Chapman published the first series of the book in 1992, his job was a pastor at the Baptist Church. After he had a bestseller, he started to travel the world presenting seminars on marriage, family, and relationships.
He was not a professional marriage counselor before he had his bestseller. Technically, the idea behind the book was based on one woman. The following series of the book though already have basis on his presentations and seminars. It's pure bandwagon effect by a well written piece of work. It's efficacy though as a relationship troubleshooter or enhancer remains annecdotal until an air-tight scientific study on it is conducted by reputable researchers to validate its efficacy.
Unlike orgasmic frequency which has been scientifically studied several times by different researchers to correlate with high relationship satisfaction, the non-anecdotal effectiveness of Chapman's Five Love Languages still hangs on thin air.
I agree with you though that the book is not fit for pick up for the well thought out reason you provided.
