So I''m a poet who writes on very serious subject matter. I do open mics so that's an easy way to dhv. I'm planning my identity as someone who is sensitive (in a non-reactive way), intellectual and altruistic (in a good guy way, not a needy nice guy way.)

I used to be more goofy, and am a little bit in my day to day life, but now I am feeling happier coming across and acting closer to my intentions. My question is how to be a little teasy and funny while being congruent with who I am. Any thoughts could help.

Don't be sensitive.

Dictionary definition:
1.quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences.

Men should NOT be sensitive. You have to be UNRESPONSIVE to slight changes, or influence.
Being sensitive, is a severe feminine trait.

If you want to write poetry that's cool. Don't give up your passion. If you write about "sensitive" or "deep" topics, that's great: the intellectual, altruistic persona works great. I'm a musician/songwriter myself, so I would suggest being deep ie. seeing the beauty and elegance in life without being phased by it all.

Being funny is about understanding your sense of humour. What do YOU find funny. Watch some comedy and figure out if you are a visual laugher, auditory laugher or kinaesthetic laugher, etc. Do images make you laugh, or wordplay/puns, or the idea of something? Much comedy on TV is verbal now which is a shame, because it leads us to assume that comedy is only wordplay.

As a visual person, I do most of my humour and teasing non-verbally. I'll pick the girl up and pretend to whack her head against the door, or I'll mime I'm driving a car with her. I'll give her piggy backs, sling her over my shoulder and pretend I'm a fire-man. This is all fun, but requires no words.

Some people are really good with wordplay/auditory comedy though. Maybe this is you.
