I was reading Aziz Ansari's "Modern romance" (totally recommend the book for newbies and intermediates, as it lays down some well-researched insight on how to date), and bumped into a research by OkCupid co-founder Chris Rudder on profile pictures. Analyzing 7000+ profile pictures, Rudder came to the conclusion that the following men's pictures receive more attention from women:
  • Not smiling, looking away from the camera (quickly followed by: smiling, still looking away)
  • With an animal
  • Showing off muscles
  • Doing something interesting
In contrast, the following pictures seemed to be a turn-off:
  • Not smiling looking at the camera
  • Being flirty looking away from the camera (pretty obvious)
  • Travel pictures
  • Drinking pictures
  • Being dressed up
Here's the link to Rudder's post: https://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the- ... -pictures/
