How to carry around pen and paper?

Hey guys, I've read a bunch of stuff about getting numbers and whatever else, and a lot of times people will say "take out a pen and paper and have them write it down for you."

Now, my question is, how do you go about doing this without looking like you planned to go out picking up women. It seems like it would come off unnatural, or like... showing the girl you planned on getting her number, or whatever. I don't usually carry pen and paper with me everywhere I go, and I tend not to carry a purse... So what's the best way to go about doing this?

I was thinking maybe it'd be easiest to carry a pen in your pocket and then either use receipts (make sure they're not for a porn shop or something otherwise foolish) or use business cards. I saw Oceans 11 again the other day, and Danny Ocean had just a plain white card with his name on it which is pretty pimp. You could also use napkins or something similar, but the environment might not always have that available.

Thoughts?

my first post,
i once number closed a girl at the bus stop with a pen and paper..and i'll admit it might have come off a little planned but it wasn't awkward.

i just brought out my wallet and took out a blank piece of paper with my nickname on which is what i always do and handed her to pen and she wrote down her number.

so i don't think its a big deal.

I conveniently carry a sharpie all the time. Or just carry a pen and say you're off from work/school. Then proceed to let them write on your arm. OR you can use the same routine with a cellphone. Tell them to be creative and put there number in. Same idea, better way.

I use a small pencil and 3 cheatsheets 1 with the headlines of my routines (canned stuff), 1 for numbers etc and 1 for routines and ideas I come up with and want to fieldtest. Fits in my backpocket.

I've done a bit of everything. I started out carrying a pen and paper so that I would have a notepad with my openers, and routines on them that I would rehearse before I got in the field. I don't use it much anymore. Basically now, I just carry around my cell phone and have them put in the number. I leave the call and text history cleared just in case Smile

I just put the number in my cell phone. I never save the girls numbers anymore I got so many it's redonkulous.

My cell is getting crowded too... Thats why I use paper. I once had a play of taking all numbers I got and putting them in a frame to make sort of a piece of art. However, that is no good idea if a HB decides to come over.

Normally i just use my mobile phone. It helps if it has lots of memory!

Man I know how you feel dude. I felt wierd just by doing the whole thing. I asked the girl to get "creative", and it was a success. I do it all naturally now.

I was actually thinking more about this, and I came up with something that will work (at least for me, unless you want to work it into your routines). If she asks why I have a pen and paper, I say I'm a writer (which I'm working at). So I carry my pad around to jot down ideas. That way it doesn't look so random, and it gives you a little DHV at the same time.

One really impressive thing to do is ask her number, and just memorize it. Sure as soon as you walk away, write it down. But if you can remember a # for 2 minutes, it is AWESOME. Girls are just blown away.
