What do you think? Who's gonna win?

Mayweather: great defense and Phil Shelley style; strategically lures opponents into a defensive onslaught; generally dominates centre of ring to avoid getting pinned on the ropes; unbeaten welterweight world champion; lots of his fights have been, technically speaking, draws at best (e.g. de la hoya); has avoided certain fights, most notably Pacquiao until now.

Pacquiao: aggressive south paw style; fast explosive footwork combined with powerful punches; eight-division world champion; and championship in four different weight classes - he's been beaten before but has more overall records than mayweather; more dynamic exciting fights than mayweather; has won more impressive victories over common opponents than mayweather.

It's pretty even and really and truly I just want the best man to win. But I sorta relate more to Pacquiao. Maybe it's the whole British underdog mentality I'm suffering from.

Well, even Muhammad Ali lost at one point during his career. Mayweather is a little older and a little slower now (although I guess Pacman's not at his peak either). He struggled enough against Maidana. Plus you've got to keep in mind, a hell of a lot of his fights were won by split decision, compared to the numerous knockout victories Pacquiao scored. And Mayweather did lose amateur fights.

Pacman 57W 5L 2D 38KOs Meaning he only Knocked out 59% of his opponents

May weather: 47 Wins - 26 KOs - 0 Loses Meaning He knocked out 55% of his opponents

So when you look at the numbers, pac has only knocked 4% more of his opponents that mayweather. And may weather has never loss or even been knocked down. Pac has been both knocked out and knocked down several times.

And I don't know what you mean split decisions. May weather has only has ONE split decision victory his whole career and that was against Oscar delahoya. He's never had a draw nor has he ever loss.

Pac has 5 Loses, 2 draws, and 3 split decision victories.

Is it safe to guess you didn't see this?

You want to bet?

I've got $250 on may weather.

We can use this thread to discuss the fight as it goes. And only if you're serious about paying.

Hey man I saw the stats...

...ok so I exaggerated the split decision victories, but Mayweather's definitely guilty of running marathons. I mean fuck it, his last matches against Maidana might as well have been split decision victories, it's not like Maidana was bruised and fucked up or anything. Not like when Mayweather beat Canelo after the full bout.

I'm not really going on stats so much as overall psychology and aggression. Mayweather, is just a more explosive aggressive fighter. And he's not like Maidana style aggressive: when he moves in, he moves in with STRATEGY. Slips in and out, side to side. He won't fall for the Mayweather defensive lure like other opponents: he's smart AND aggressive.

I agree with Pebbles, a staredown can be pretty revealing: who looks away first? who is leaning forwards aggressively? who looks confident? who looks nervous and jittery?

...Or maybe I just watched too much dragon ball z when I was a kid.

I am going out tonight so might be able to catch it if I don't succeed.

I have already bet £50 on a boxing match that I never knew existed till today.

Apparently it is has been cancelled though:

Lol you definitely watched too much dragon Ball z.

Did you see the stare down last night? Manny was barely holding eye contact. He looked away 3 times without may moving once.

I'm done debating. I'll let money's hands do the talking, but if Manny shoots a laser beam out his hands you got it
