My brain is swimming in happy chemicals right now. My girl and I banged, then cuddled, then banged, then cuddled, then banged then cuddled for 4 hours. Holy shit. I'm wrecked. She's wrecked.

I discovered a new technique that she really, really enjoys, and it's inspired me to up my bedroom game. Before, I've thought I was pretty good, but now I want to be great. Giving women pleasure really is a fantastic game.

I think I'm going to spend maybe 20 min a night doing stretching exercises to make Ning Jr. bigger (I would say he's smack dab average right now). Going to experiment a little more and do a little research. All in good fun.

Didn't get any work done tonight, but it was worth it.

Before all that, went and played a bunch of bball at the gym. Consuming a shitload of food at 1 am right now. Lol #life

I feel incredibly grateful. Not everyone gets to experience 4 hours of sex with a beautiful girl they love. That really is a special experience, and even though I've put in an unbelievable amount of work to get here, I still remain grateful.

You can really do anything you put your mind to in this life. It is all at once a freeing and exciting thought.

I emailed Brian Dean, the founder of Backlinko, cuz I saw in his email that he lived in a city 1 hour away from me, name dropping a couple peeps and then offering to take him out to lunch. JC's mentioned the importance of mentors several times, so I went for it.

I got a reply back that he doesn't live there anymore, it's just his business is registered there. Awesome, I'm glad that I tried.

This morning I was much better about getting up and getting moving. Tomorrow going to get EVEN faster at it, and incorporate the next thing on my list to add daily: scripting the day the night before.

Finished one bonus in a day. One bonus left, and the copy. It's feeling really close! My goal is to go plus in profit off this funnel, but if I break even I'll still be overjoyed.

Tomorrow I'm going to really sit down and map out the VSL copy. Super psyched!!!! This launch is going to be great!!!

So I read the title Pickup-journal and saw stuff about field reports, then I go all the way here to the last page with the newest posts, and I see stuff about having sex with my girlfriend I love? Am I Missing something here?

And what kind of sales funnel do you have and what for?

Go read the beginning of the journal if you want stuff about pick up. My life has progressed a lot since then. The sales funnel is for my dating business, for a product that helps beginners, called Get Girls Fast.

Happy Independence Day. Symbolic, no?

Exercise - Good. Getting back into it, lifting weights again in addition to cardio. Once my bruised foot gets better going to start running. Thinking about starting training for another ultra. I'm reading Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill in between sets.

Relationships - Great. Amanda and I are doing great, had a bunch of sex, spending a lot of time together, very happy with it it. We saw fireworks together today, and did work together all day.

Business - On the cusp of a crossroads. My big flagship product is about to launch. I'm almost done with the copy, and then just one bonus left to create. Then record the VSL and edit it. All in all about 1-2 days work, I think. Probably 2. There is a very real chance that I may not start school in the fall.

The copy is pretty good. I think it's better than the last. And the last one sold a lot, and is still selling, so I'm pretty hopeful for this one. Can't really tell how well it's going to sell, but I guess we shall see.

Things I must improve / work on:

Scripting the next day.

Colder showers. Taking cold ones now, but going to try to go colder and colder. Feels nice in the summer.

Cutting ice cream out of my diet. (except for once in a blue moon)

Ramping up exercise.

Increasing social activity. I've been sacrificing this, except for time with Amanda, to rush the business stuff. Once it launches and the funnel is set up, going to work on this again.

It's good. I'm happy. I'm feeling purposeful. Let's keep killing it.

Good shit.

Cold showers is probably the hardest habit I've ever built. Still struggle with it, especially during the winter. Summer is a good time to get it into a nice pattern. It's great for discipline and has a certain number of physiological benefits as well.

I have a bit of a weekly junk food "budget." Basically, 80% of the food I eat is a strict Paleo-esque variety. But I leave room to have drinks and meals with girls, friends, colleagues, etc... and to give myself the occasional guilty pleasure. I tried being completely "clean" but it was just too hard to manage socially. This is more fun and my physique has never been better.

Why not script the next day here? A little accountability and a little voyeurism is a great way to build a habit. Plus I like seeing how other people structure their time.

Fantastic idea, I will start that. This way, it'll also hold me accountable for getting shit done.

I've told my list the launch day is Friday, and I'm going to go for a 5 day promotion I think. Not quite sure what the difference is to 3 day vs 5 day promotion.

Right now I'm thinking about what the right timing is for telling my advisor that I'm quitting grad school. I'm pretty sure I should do it before the school year starts in the fall, and I'll be busy through most of the end of July (sister is coming to visit) and the beginning of August (family vacation and then wedding in Big Sur).

If I tell him earlier, it frees up the summer to put more work into the business, and more time into fun things with Amanda and with my sister.

What's the downside?

Not sure.

I think just fear.

Just fear of the unknown, fear of stepping off of a cliff. Which is to be expected, I think.

I got an offer to write sales copy that begins in August. I know I'm taking it.

I don't know how extensive it is, if I'll be able to do it concurrently with being in graduate school, or whether I even should.

All I know is that I won't be able to do that, run my business, AND do graduate school at the same time.

So I think graduate school is getting the boot.

So now the real question is... when do I tell my advisor? He gets back from vacation Friday, and he's a big, mean mugging, intimidating guy. And kind of a douche bag.

Do I tell him earlier?

Do I tell him later?

All logic points to earlier, but there's still that fear of how he'll react, and stepping into the unknown.

I'll try and not think about it at least for a couple days, because it's irrelevant. Starting on Monday, I should make a decision as soon as possible about when to tell him.

Because I know I'm committed down this path.

There's no turning back.

Burn the boats, failure is not an option.

That means for this sales job I gotta go 100% balls to the wall, cuz it's sink or swim.

Just the way I like it.

As far as tomorrow goes, let's start scripting.

Lets get up at 9.

Immediately do my visualization exercise, take a 10 minute walk, bring my affirmation flashcards, and go through them on the walk.

Come back, eat breakfast, do bathroom stuff. Cold shower. Read Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill while eating.

Head on to campus at 10. Write a email newsletter, and answer questions I get on social media. Done by 11.

Start and plate cells, done by 11:30.

Finish editting the VSL, upload it to the website, make the sales page, connect it to Clickbank, make the product page, do a bunch of technical stuff. Should be done with that by 2ish. Tidy up the script for the last bonus, and print it out. 3.

Then gonna take my lunch break till 4. Take a nap, 5.

Wake up and run, then hit the gym and do chest / biceps.

Get back, shower, go back on to campus between 7 and 8, record the last bonus, upload it to the website. That should be done by 10:00. Make or grab some late night food, pass out.

Giving it an hour or two flex time so that Amanda and I can hang a little bit. It's the night before her MCAT, so I'm sure we won't be hanging out too much.

Then, get ready to launch on Friday. Boom. Let's GO.

Did everything scripted yesterday, except for the lifting. I ran, which was good, but there were some technical issues I had to figure out.

It's good now, but meant that I couldn't get my lifts in.

Everything's fantastic.

I chatted with a bunch of close friends over the phone about my plan to quit graduate school soon and pursue my business / copywriting. They were supportive.

It still won't be for a little while, however.

Amanda is taking her MCAT today. I wish her good luck and correct bubbles.

BTW, that shit is 7 hours long. Wtf? Gotta give props to pre-meds and their dedication to that shit. God knows I'd go crazy doing that.

Today is pretty relaxed. I just sent an email out launching the new product. Whatever happens, I worked hard the past week on it, so I'm proud of my work. If it makes a lot of sales, fantastic! If it doesn't, that's fine too, I'm still proud of the effort I put in, I'll just have to figure out what's wrong and then figure out how to fix it.

The launch promotion ends on Tuesday (5 days), so I'll wait and see what happens before doing a re-assessment.

Meanwhile, this weekend I'll be working on putting together the funnel for bringing traffic straight from Youtube to the VSL, and redoing my autoresponder sequence to pitch it again 3 days after.

That should be done by the end of Sunday, that's my goal.

Today is going to be more relaxed. I just sent the email and did some lab work, it's noon now. I'm gonna go do my lifts and eat soon, and then Amanda gets back around 3:30, and we're planning on checking out Secret Life of Pets (her reward) and hitting up her friend's party tonight.

A good amount of work the past week, I deserve some unwinding as well.

Let's kick it and have some fun :)

Had a fantastic weekend.

Friday-

When Amanda got off of her MCAT (went decently), we went and saw Secret Life of Pets, which was meh in terms of quality, but sufficiently entertaining.

Afterwards, I took her out to eat to celebrate her finishing her MCAT and my big product launch to her favorite restaurant, and then we went to her friend's party afterwards. Me, another dude, and 6 girls. Lulz. It was filled with drinking games, me binging on edamame, and Just Dance.

On a side note, it's recently come to my attention that edamame and other soy products may be fucking up my testosterone levels. Not completely sure on this, just heard it from one guy, who is apparently a reputable source.

I'm drinking soy milk since I'm lactose intolerant. Is anyone an authority on this? Should I switch to almond milk?

Saturday-

Amanda and I meet my boi Mark and his fiance Hannah for a short but steep 4 mile hike up Arthur's Rock. It was fun, good to get out and about and moving.

In the evening, we went to one of my guitar heroes Tommy Emmanuel's concert. It was spectacular. Inspiring, to say the least.

Sunday-

Amanda and I joined a huge meetup group of more than 30 people to go tubing down the Poudre River.

It was ice cold, turbulent, and crazy, but it was a lot of fun. I banged up my butt on a rock pretty good. Amanda loved it so much she wants to take her friends on it again.

In the afternoon, we came back, took a shower together, and then made love several times before heading to see a movie directed by one of my close high school friends.

Have you ever seen the music video Turn Down for What?

Well the Asian guy in that video's name is Dan Kwan, and he directed a series of music videos as well as the new feature film, Swiss Army Man. I'm actually going as a groomsman in his wedding in August in Big Sur, which is gonna be sick.

The movie was fantastic. Everyone go see it :)

Back in the lab today, and back to the gym.

Gotta take a moment to take a deep breath, and refocus myself today.

Business

The launch went well on the first day, then kinda died off in terms of sales on the next couple days, which is to be expected. Tomorrow is the last day, and hopefully scarcity / urgency should kick in and we'll get a big day in terms of sales.

The next few projects...

Recording the next bridge video, to go from Lead Magnet (pitch the click to bridge video) --> Bridge Video (more content, plus hero story), pitch the click to VSL --> VSL for flagship product.

Redoing the autoresponder sequence.

I'm thinking of having the first email point to the lead magnet, the second email to point to the bridge video, and then the third to repitch the VSL again. So there's a bunch of opportunities for them to snag the flagship product.

After I get that done, then I'm going to start running PPC from Youtube to the Lead Magnet, and assess the numbers to see what my next step is.

Either way, I'm thinking that my next product is going to be called something like "Confidence" or something. It's going to be at a price point of about $77-$97, and it's going to be entirely video based, my first video based product.

The content is going to be body language, eye contact, and vocal tonality stuff.

Gonna start outlining the general set up, because there's a lot of material I want to cover, and I want to organize it in a coherent, digestible way and really make this a high quality product.

Health-

I've been a little harsh on my body. Butt is sore from tubing. Have a jacked up finger from basketball. Have a messed up left foot from basketball. Should take some time doing something not crazy physical to heal all these parts of my body, but I really just love basketball too much. Every time I go to lift, I end up picking a ball up and just shooting a bit, and then I inevitably end up playing more games and re-injuring.

Going to focus on being more consistent with my lifts. I'll still play bball because I love it, but I'll try to replace more of the cardio with swimming to heal.

Goals for Lifts-

Get back to where I was at before I stopped going consistently.

Bench - 180
Squats - 205
Overhead - 100
Pullups - 3 x 13
Deadlifts - 270
Curls - 37.5

Not anything terribly ambitious or anything, but once I hit those goals, I can start thinking about the next level in terms of gainz.

For cardio, just swim and heal. Gotta get new bball shoes so my foot doesn't keep getting fucked up.

Relationships-

Everything with Amanda is going better than ever.

I've been slacking on these weekly dinners, mostly because I've been spending a lot of time with Amanda, and my standards for who I hang out with have risen.

I've found myself less interested in hanging out and being social with most people, which might be slightly poisonous of a mindset.

Two of my closest peeps here, Allison and Jesse, have both moved. The guys I should target to spend more time with now I think includes Zee (knows a ton of people, super cool guy), Morgan (one of my closest buddies, in Boulder), and I'm going to try to join an Internet Marketing meet up to see if I can meet some knowledgeable people there and build connections.

That's all for now. Lets GO.

Just joined a couple internet marketing meetups in the area. Exciting. Hopefully I'll be able to meet a lot of like minded people who I can help in some way.

Currently my "eating" activity is reading Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill, after which I'll switch to Ramit Sethi's I will Teach You To Be Rich, which is on deck.

Also leisure reading My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday - some mind blowing shit.

Played about 1.5 hrs of bball yesterday and lifted bench press and curls afterwards. Felt good, eating a lot of fruits, which is good.

Also rewrote email 1 of my autoresponder sequence last night. It's 50 million times better than it was. Hell yeah. Emails 2 and 3 are on deck.

A lot of this type of writing is attention. I think Joe Sugarman wrote that the purpose of the first line is to get the second line read, and the purpose of the second line is to get the third line read, etc. etc. etc. all the way to the offer.

Everything is attention on the internet.

I've been writing following this general rule, and I've accrued a list in my phone in terms of things that human brains are programmed to pay attention to. Looked at a lot of Buzzfeed clickbait headlines, in addition to copywriting headlines lol.

Off the top of my head, here are a few:

Incongruity - something random that doesn't fit in (You won't believe ... is a popular Buzzfeed one)

Emotion - Any strong emotion draws attention (Trainers HATE him ad)

Danger to Survival - pretty straightforward that the human brain has to pay attention to something dangerous

Benefit / Avoidance - the classic promise of positive benefit / avoidance of pain or negative effect used a lot in copywriting

Social Proof - people pay attention to what other people are paying attention to

"Made for You" effect - people pay attention to things that are about them... say if something is about Asians living in Fort Collins, I'd probably pay attention to it... or about bball players, or about entrepreneuers, etc. etc. (this is why those quizzes on Facebook "Which Disney Princess are You?" and "10 Things Bostonians Identify With" work)

Lists - People like numbers... 10 things blah blah blah... 7 pictures that'll make you cry etc.

Celebrity - People pay attention to people of high status. This is why Tabloids and those checkout aisle magazines work. There are always more email opens when I include a celebrity in the subject line

Authority - People pay attention and listen to teachers that other people listen and pay attention to.

Scarcity - "Secrets" and things that aren't very available are attractive to people. I've used the word "personal" in a couple email subject lines, and I get more opens when I do.

Urgency - When something's about to disappear

Imagery - When you can plant an image in someone's head, they pay attention more. This is part of the reason why stories work so well.

Completion - When something's started, people have an innate urge to finish it... also why stories work so well. This is why so many people use open loops in their copywriting.

Rapport - People pay more attention to people / things they have more rapport with than not.

Anyways, just a couple of the things floating around in my brain.

Bout to head to the lab and start some work. Onwards!

It's not quite so cut and dry. Soy is a phytoestrogen which can elevate your estrogen levels which may not necessarily impact testosterone... but high estrogen is just as bad a low test.

Practically speaking, fermented soy (ie soy sauce and natto) is OK.

Tofu, edamame, soy oils, soy "dairy" and other soy-based products are probably best avoided.

It's not life and death and there are other things much more important to your hormone health as a men (sleep, a higher-fat diet, and exercise are probably #1-3). Stress reduction and "cortisol control" is big too.

I wouldn't get too concerned over the occasional edamame binge, but don't let those other soy things be a daily part of your diet is probably a good rule of thumb.

Very timely thought. I've noticed the same thing about standards, especially in regards to the GUYS I'm friends with.

With girls as friends, as long as they're cute, positive, chill, and not emotionally volatile, I'm pretty happy to just have female energy around (of course when it comes to girls I want to SEE, that's an entirely different story, insanely demanding there).

But with guys, I find myself having trouble finding guys I really want to spend a lot of time with. Motivated, driven, active, hustlers who are social and have shit going for themselves. Having just moved, I've been meeting a lot of dudes lately and frankly, I don't see many of them as being "Inner Circle" kind of friends.

But....

To your point about poison mindsets, I think you'd be wise to begin consciously removing those thoughts you're having Just because good guys are hard to find doesn't mean the rest of them have less value as people.

I try not to write anyone off just because they are not "elevating" themselves and I try very hard not to judge people who are more "average." That's not just a harmful mindset internally, but it reeks through your mannerisms and can come across as pretentious and self-righteous.

One of the greatest growth points I've had over the last year or so is along these lines. Learning to value people and letting real connections happen... just because they are people, not solely because of anything they're are, what they've done, or the things they've achieved.

All of that said, mental and emotional energy is limited so the balancing act is reserving the limited resources for the people who you connect with best and then being thoughtful and caring and empathetic and just a general good person with everyone else.

Journaling as a way to warm up in terms of writing now.

Amanda and I went to Seaman Reservoir yesterday. We did a 2 mile run up and down a big climb, and then walked a mile to the reservoir. There, we swam for 1.5 hours or so, so that was a lot of good cardio. She was paddling around in an inner tube, and I was in my speedo just doing laps in this big abandoned lake in the mountains. It was awesome.

On top of that, it was a lot of fun and we splashed around a lot. We got back, ate some food, fooled around a bit, and then called it a night.

Today, I sprained my ankle playing bball. I suspect it's a 3-4 day recovery deal.

When it's recovered, I'm definitely going to buy new basketball shoes. The shoes I'm playing in right now blow, and are probably contributing to my multiple lower limb injuries.

The autoresponders sequence and the video funnel is in the works. I had finished the whole thing, but then during editing I decided that one of the parts wasn't good enough, so I am rewriting and reshooting that part.

Still not completely used to selling live to a camera yet, it's much easier reading the words off of a VSL. Even when I have the notes written down, it doesn't come out super smooth.

Just gonna take more practice.

The funnel will definitely be finished by the end of the weekend, and then I'll start thinking about the next step.

Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill, by the way, is awesome. Great book, good read and good insight for entrepreneurs, gets me motivated every morning.

Oh, and I went to an Internet Marketing Meetup yesterday, it was completely useless. They spent an hour and a half trying to convince me to use Pinterest lol. But hey, it was still good to go check it out, just in case it was useful. There were 2 people there out of about 12 that I could tell knew what they were doing. Eh.

Better I think to just put my nose down and grind.
