You don't have to end friendships. Just hang with them less. They will get the memo. People treat me the way I feel like I should be treated
I went to the extreme back in college. Freshman to Softmore year... Pretended not to know anyone and everyone I use to know, got a new car, new friends, etc...
And, it wasn't like my identity was that bad. I was the guy who hung around the lounge a lot watching cartoons and younger demographic TV shows. If a girl was headed down to the campus store at midnight. I was the guy a girl would ask to keep her company so she felt safe. All the girls in the dorm would always wish me happy birthday, etc...
The dorm RA tried to convince me to talk to this one girl who was doing coke because I had "influence." I didn't quite get what he meant, and I wasn't the type to interfere in other peoples lives. Their deal is their deal!
I was just an upright type of guy. My roomates in this house before I moved to the dorms were always afraid I was going to narc them out for smoking pot.
I wasn't "dangerous"... I was not the type of guy a girl was thinking something might happen with if she hung out around me.
