I'm pretty mew to the pua crowd. Read lots of material, I have a decent amount of canned routines. After 2 weeks of going out with the sole purpose of trying to acheive social hook as quick as possible, I had n-closed 4 sets, k-closed 2 and had 2 sets n-close me. (yea, they actually asked for MY number, felt so awesome)
So I thought I'd make my own routines finally. You know, come up with my own material. I made an opinion opener, a 2nd one to follow the subject brought up and a good story to go into after I did a best friends test.
Now with all the success I've been having thus far, this has been my worst night sarging ever. So myquestion is this: Do you think the material matters or is the problem my confidence level with the material I'm using?
I was a little on edge I think when going through my routine, mostly becuase I'd made it up myself and this was the first field test for it. Does anyone have a good exercise or tip to help an RAFC advance from canned material thats made up and canned material that actual relates to my life?
I think if I could have canned routines that are actually true and about my life, I'd be more confident in them and therefore would focus more on reading the sets reactions, calibrating my game.
Anyone else feel they can relate to this or just recently passed through this transition? |

I understand what you're going through.
Developing your own material can be difficult.
You'll get it over time, with a little fine tweaking.
Try looking at the proven canned material, and breaking it down.
Look at it's structure. How does it work, and why?
That's what I did.
I try to use as little canned material as possible.
But I always keep some on reserve, in case of blank-out moments.
I also like to be prepared with some good canned openers.
I like what you're trying to do though,
by creating material that comes from your life.
That way, it really is all your own.
I have this buddy, my cousin actually, who's girlfriend moved far away.
Now they're waiting for each other, but it's not really a relationship.
I use this situation in my life as material for an opener,
asking if it's alright to hook up with other people while they "wait for each other".
It works surprisingly well. |

Yeah I agree totally with Element on canned material. The only canned material you should use, is your own canned material, and even then just use it if youre all out of options, in my opinion. Im a great improviser, but still i run through a few standard scenarios in my head and come up with something funny and clever for those situations.
Canned material can save your nose, but wont make/break your game. |

Failed real bad on my first 2 opens tonight haha. I ran the sincere compliment on a set of 2, both targets, and got an "Awwww" from both girls after the initial question. When I turned it around to "Cool, me too! Hey, you go first", they both turned on me with negs! I hadn't thought about that happening, and wasnt able to adapt - aborted.
I mention this in case anyone else is going to try that opener, be ready for that circumstance. Throw them the best friends test, and make it a neg.
"What are you guys, best friends?! Ganging up on me!"
You know? I think that would be a good retort, lets you reframe the situation from them buffeting you to you accusing them. If that doesnt work, or you have a better response to that, post it. I'm gonna work that the rest of this week, force myself to think better on my feet.
Did end the night on an n-close with vested interest. And laugh with me if you've ever opened a set and had a case of deja vu. Yea thats right, 2 girls i apparently opened 3 nights ago, were at the same bar tongiht. I opened them with the 'Kiss Twice' again. Hahaha. Wooo, let me tell you - that was interesting. I probly should have been able to get social hook, since their emotions were at least heightened, but I pulled play a from the afc handbook and ran away. Fuck. I shoulda remembered the golden rule "Nothing bothers you." Can't get riled up, thats major DLV. Oh well, try again tomorow! |
