Thanks for this impact, I've been looking for this video for ages as it was the very first thing I ever saw/heard about the community a few years ago (I didn't join then though).
They did another Rules Of Seduction programme which I found when I was looking for the one you posted. It's here [link] |

Great find, i am shocked at how a lot of the people and even the documentary portrays stuff.
The opening lines "men who think they have found the tricks and magic to attract women."
As for that darren man, they made it out that because he was into PU he quit college and doesnt work.
Another line "It seems a darker side to PU is women appear to be disposable". WTF! So much of this documentary seems to show it in a bad way tbh. NOT the reason i am involved in the community.
Also, since when has it been the rule not to get a GF in PU?
And is it me, or the AFC --> PUA not very convincing?
Again, its a documentary and i know editing does a hell of a lot. But to me, this editing seems to make it seem, creepy.
Am i just living in an ideal world, you tell me? Or is this documentary making PU out to be the "manipulative, lier and player" idea most people think of when you say PUA.
p..s i want to stess, i blame the editing for my views and i am sure the guys are it may be great people. |

| Every documentary attempts to make a certain point. I really think its obvious which point he was trying to make. I often wonder how much of that is editing, and how much was actually in context. |

Just like any program on TV you have to consider why its there.
Guy sees ad for PUA, says to his producer that could be a good topic for me to do (pays my wages if i do a film now and then and I get to try out the tricks), films a guy in the street who for money sells his story (hes unemployed afterall ), edits the film to make viewers attracted ( sex sells ) {men who feel inadequate watch to learn, pervs wanna see sex, women are curious or want the same as the men. ) Tv program narrator reads from script, little or no emotional tonality?, and alters some words to sell a story.
Viewers miss the part about dysfunctional people bettering their chances at finding a mate and to be seen as upright citizens are revolted that people will manipulate others to get sex - whats new?.. Hypnotists that sell books and CDs on attracting women now theres another story they could have done, but then Paul Daniels would lose out on Royalties and couldnt appear on TV shows.
In my opinion some TV programs use too many actors or manipulating imagry to sell the show, VH1 Pick Up Artist ?.
Most educational stuff is left on the floor of the editing room because its not sensational enough to sell the story, or maybe they didnt get a bribe to tell it better.
I know to always consider a story is only someone elses viewpoint of an event with many aspects and people will say anything sometimes to get the money even if someone else is hurt..

It's nothing to do with the BBC but good nonetheless.
I'm friends with Ian, he's a member of my lair but hes just as bad now as he was when he did this |

guys, the sad thing is that there are men out there who do this. that's why women shy away from this whole profession. there are real jerks who will pick up a girl, string her along, then leave her weeping in the gutter. that is why you probably don't want to advertise that you're learning (or teaching) how to pick up women.
however, i (yes, i'm a girl) really respect some of the things you guys teach/learn on here. confidence is something everyone (girls too, believe me!) needs to learn. (note=not arrogance, confidence) and i totally support giving guys the guts to walk up and make that first contact with a girl. if they're interested, girls will respond. |

What is the difference between learning to get good with women and abusing them, and those who are already good with women and abuse them? Nothing. Generally one would expect, however, that when works hard to attain something, he will value it more than if it came easy. |

there is no difference. abuse is abuse. however, the fact that you have that ability to use women is what scares them. they don't understand it, is all i'm saying.
and i hope that most women would have common sense enough to understand that the work you put into getting them adds to their value, and isn't just for sport. it is a game or sport to some - not all! - which scares the living daylights out of women. they don't know, that is all. |

I thought it was a legit documentary. I also think its true that guys are into PU so they won't be lonely; but who wants to be lonely anyways? That Darren dude makes me sad; no real ambition but to use girls. 11 pounds and he's going to buy flowers? wtf? Thats the definition of manipulation.
Whats the deal with some girls and their ability to hangout with guys like that? Must be the whole logic vs emotion thing. After he drains that last girl financially and emotionally, he'll move on and start again. Parasite. |

This is what someone else mentioned in the beginning of the thread. They come off as creepy when they may not be like that in real life. The editing has taken the context and shook it up a bit.
I saw Darren as a lazy guy who perhaps got TOO indulged in pick up. Maybe he DID have ambition (going to school... or working...) but quit everything to become a PUA. And he obviously is a PUA in the film. OR maybe... he is just in a rut in his life. Maybe he is .. or WAS depressed and still has the skill of pick-up. Maybe it appears as though he is using his girlfriend, when get actually, geniunely loves her.
I guess I liked Darren.... he has a similar style (clothing, hair) to Russel Brand. AFC Adam was great as usual |

| they definitely made darren look like a user. true, documentaries can twist things to put their own spin on them, but people do have that happen. there isn't any reason that he can't pick himself up and learn some balance in life. balance his picking up girls with a career. even if that career is picking up, balance is vital! |

Funny enough, I met AFC Adam Lyons BEFORE I saw this documentary a few months back (I know it originally aired in November 2007).
He was the most authentic, genuine and not to mention flawless PUA I have even studied.
Funny enough he is NOT unemployed and worked in PR (Public Relations) all his life up to 2006- when he quit his job after being given an ultimatum by his boss. "Stop going out" (with 10 girls on his arms 5-7 nights a week) or quit. He quit and became a PUA.
When I saw him the second time I queried why someone from a PR background (you can check his credentials online) who can vouch for his past employment would agree to something whereby he'd lose so much face and be edited to look like some kind of bedroom dwelling pervert.
He replied in hindsight, "Yes, Yeah PUA was made to look bad. In fact you know the line where I say "I want to be the best Pick Up Artist in the World"- I was told by the producer, say the line or you will not feature in the final documentary". |
