i broke a BIG rule

ok so this just happened like 30 minutes ago...

first, heres some background info:

first encounter:theres this backery/deli by my work and i ordered takeout one day. it was the first time i had been in there and i went to pay for my food (some guy rung me up) and there was this HB7 standing there i looked over and she had a cute smile and said hi. so i said hi gave her a smile, got my food and left. i didnt think much of it since i didnt find her strikingly attractive anyway.

second encounter:a week or so later i went in to pick up my order and she was at the register. she gave me a look like she remembered me, smiled and said hello. she rung me up i asked her how her day was going, small talk, she asked if i work in the area and as i was leaving she said "ill see you around"

third encounter:today(around a week later)so i went in planning to talk to her get her number and what not. i ran through some scenarios and possible conversations on the way over there. she was at the register and this is how it went:

HB7: I can help you over here.
Me: Hi, how have you been?
HB7: Hm, well okay. How about you?
Me: Good (with a smile&eye contact)
HB7: Well thats good.
Me: Have anything fun planned for the weekend?
HB7: Just some auditions *blah blah i guess she does orchestra/theatre*
Me: Oh thats cool
HB7: What about you, anything fun?
Me: Yeah, probably going sailing
HB7: On a sail boat?
Me: Yeah
HB7:*blah blah said it sounds nice she doesnt like motorboats blah blah*
Me: Well listen id like to talk to you again some time, write down you number...*handed her the receipt*
HB7: *paused for a second* why dont you give me yours
***Now this through me for a loop! This was the last thing I thought about, I had no plan. In the back of my mind Im thinking, no way dont give it to her think of something to say. I was at a loss so I looked her in the eyes for a second with a semi-puzzled look***
HB7: Im really busy blah blah
Me: Ok *I BROKE THE RULE-i scribbled my name and number on a piece of paper*
HB7: How old are you?
Me: 22, and you?
HB7: oh cool, 19
After this i dont really remember what was said, i felt derailed, i think she said ill talk to you soon or something.

So comrades, id like to hear some advice/criticism.

well first thing I noticed is when you said going sailing and she oh on a sailboat, you could have easily negged her and teased her a little. What I would have done is if she said why dont you give me your number I would have replied with cuz im a busy guy and you probably wont get ahold of me or something of that nature. The thing is is you wanna have control over the "relationship" from the getgo, writing your number down you gave her control. if she calls, dont anwser, then call her back and say tell her your in a hurry and cant talk but you'd like to meet up during the week.

Yeah now you're waiting for her to call. She may or may not call. You should probably wait by the phone all night, and tomorrow, and the next day........LOL

Ya I knew I fucked up as soon as I couldnt come up with a counter to that b.s. Im glad I know how to knock that one out of the park for next time though. I dont care whether or not she calls, as I said, I didnt think she was that hot to begin with. I just hit her up for practice. Lets suppose she doesnt call...haha can I still order takeout? Is there a good way to handle this or just chalk it up to experience?

Hired guns are paid to be nice and smile. Don't mistake that for real IOIs.

This is the "big mistake" that I see.

Meeting 1: "hi"
Meeting 2: small talk
Meeting 3: attempt to number close.

It seems like you didn't generate any attraction or rapport with her. You didn't DHV that I can see, and you didn't use any attraction techniques that I'm familiar with (i.e., negs, cocky funny, social proof, etc...)

I completly agree with Mech.
By the sounds of it you went in and did what any AFC would have done.
You need to play some sort of routine, unless you look like Brad Pitt and have a porshe parked out front.
Would be interessted to know if she calls.

I don't think that has anything to do with a boyfriend. She's interested, but by having your number, she wants to be in control of the situation.

How about telling her you have caller ID on your phone, and, you don't answer calls from numbers you don't recognize. You need her number so you'll know when she calls. If she doesn't give you the number, and you still want to bother with her, you'll have to back off, demonstrate no interest, and DHV. Its a game, have some fun with it. A lot of this forum is dedicated to quick closes, and those are fun. But you can mix in some "projects" along the way. It's all about learning and gaming.

Hmm i think you probably should have gone cocky funny when she asked for your number (I am a big advocate of cocky funny lol). Maybe it will work out but i think by you giving her your number she will think she is in control of the situation (which she is) but if anything grows from that encounter she will have control and it would be hard to get it back. May not be worth it mate Sad

Eye contact = DHV maybe you could have built some more rapport with her, sounds to me like you rushed it a little before getting her no.
